The Open and Free Internet Was Lots of Fun, While it Lasted

We live in very interesting times ladies and gents, and today there were 2 major news-related events, which made my skin crawl. And I am very serious about this, because both “happenings” are going to influence our lives in a significant way for the years to come. If nothing changes, the ‘interwebz’ as we know it will never be the same. And we’ll all be forced to go on the dark side of the web, where there are cookies and malware.

First, it was that neo-communist structure, also known as the European Parliament, passing what has been mildly described as the anti-meme law. Basically, those cretin bureaucrats who populate the halls of the EU parliament are trying to force (American based) tech companies to enforce an arbitrary law which would basically make everything on the current Internet illegal. The story with article 11 and 13 goes like this: according to current copyright laws, every image and/or video submitted by users to Internet sites (like forums, social media, you-tube, blogging platforms, what have you) must be checked in real time (as they’re uploaded) by AI-powered software (image recognition and all that) in order to make sure they’re “kosher”, as in they’re not infringing any possible copyright claim.

Wonder if blocking ALL traffic from EU countries would protect you from this?

Just wondering....

How can Europe impose restrictions on US free speech?

Unless they prevent access to the Internet entirely...

I could be wrong, but i think the reasoning (if you could call it that), is that if you are serving pages to someone in the EU then you are responsible for the content of those pages.

So it sounds like the only way to prevent issues is to block all page requests from EU countries.

I want to copyright a white page and a black page.

Oops.

That black page is probably cultural appropriation.

The copyright monster doesn’t allow for good faith exemptions. It is rigid. Anything that belongs to someone else cannot be posted. 2017 and 18 saw people being shutdown across Youtube for posting clips of shows, music vids, etc...They will use the letter of the law to enforce unrelated restrictions. It’s what tyrants do.

I see the ads when I go to certain sites and I don't mind. Over on the YouTube, you now have to watch ads before most videos but in many cases, you can skip the ad after 5 seconds. But what content! The content is FREE out on the YouTube if you can suffer a commercial here and there (and I can!).

BILLIONS of videos out on the YouTube and hundreds of hours of new video is being added every MINUTE!

I think it would now take 250,000 years to watch every single video on YouTube and that's without sleeping.

I had a dream once where I died and went to heaven and in heaven, before they admitted me through the gates, I had to watch every single commercial that was ever made. One of the commercials was a father and his sons wearing the same socks and they were just sitting in chairs with their socks on wiggling their feet. It was after that commercial that I woke up. Maybe that's what purgatory is all about?

Let them rot. They embraced socialism after WW2. Now, they embrace Sharia. One in the same.

How can Europe impose restrictions on US free speech?

The same way they try to impose restrictions on US gun rights.

Through international treaty.

America operates under the legal concept of “fair use” of copyrighted material. If the EU fascists want to use a different set of rules, then let them develop their own internet. They can call it “Seig Heil!”

And yet at any breaking news item, all of the networks air the footage sans release because “twitter”, “youtube”, or “public’s right to know”.

They even copy and rehost the footage themselves.

The day of a Zappruder actually getting paid for his footage are ovah.

Good.

I see a lot of whining by people who think the internet is “free”.
LOL!
Someone’s paying for it and they call the tune.

Few understand that the internet was to be the vehicle for a Liberal awakening. It was going to be a liberal nirvana.

However, the Left has recently discovered that it is actually the opposite (it is a “freedom” awakening; which is inherently conservative/libertarian).

And now they are moving to restrict the internet and forcibly inhibit unfettered communication and the sharing of ideas.

Liberalism IS oppression and censorship. Always has been. Always will. We are in really dangerous times.
