Thank 60+ years of government guided public education and indoctrination for that one. The roosevelt lovers (Henry Kaiser and ilk) and haters (William “Big Bill” Knudson)who organized and manufactured US logistic superiority for the win in WWII were practically swept into obscurity by a public ed system that intended to show that it was government largess and Keynesian economics that won the war. The new dealers came out on top in schools and since social studies supplanted history, socialism in America (should be the most hideous of oxymorons...) has become much less the dirty, filthy, disgusting talking point among the folks “educated” in those schools.

The real problem is that Republicans are very conflicted when it comes to law enforcement.
On the one hand, the conservative red state voter base is pro law enforcement - they take the cop’s side vs black lives matter, they are pro ICE, Trump always thanks LE at his rallies and everyone cheers, and rightly so. They put their lives on the line to keep us safe.
On the other hand, there are plenty of crooked cops - everyone knows it’s true. Here on FR we are always talking about how crooked the FBI and the DOJ is.
So Trump is in a difficult spot politically - how do you explain to the American people that the FBI and DOJ are crooked without sounding anti law enforcement? If you sound anti law enforcement you start sounding like Obama or any other lib.
That’s why Trump has to be careful how all this corruption gets exposed - it’s got to be some bad apples - it can’t be an epidemic. I mean it probably IS an epidemic, but Trump can’t do a mass extermination and still keep his pro-law enforcement image.
You have to admit it’s a tough call. I think that Trump is restraining his own people, the “white hats” in the DOJ and FBI, and when we see that restraint, and look at how little is being done to put the bad guys in jail, we blame the white hats, and conclude they are part of the deep state.
I just think Trump has this under control, but he’s finessing it - and it’s driving some of his most blood thirsty supporters (like me) nuts.
I want to see some action, but I trust Trump’s judgment - it’s too soon to second guess and assume he’s been overwhelmed by the deep state.
I think the best indication is Trump’s demeanor. He just does not seem like a man who is beaten - it’s the opposite - he comes off as a player who is holding all the cards.

Yes, and this lends credence to charges of Woodward working with the FBI for many years. No doubt he has. He probably nurtured many contacts there since the Watergate days.
This of course calls into question the impropriety (to say the least) of people in government having cozy and/or symbiotic relationships with people in the media.
Anyone who works for the government should be required to sign a pledge (subject to harsh penalties) agreeing to not release any government information to the media unless it is approved by the agency’s public relations office.
