I visited Manhattan beach in 72. Exactly how it was shown in the opening scenes of “blow” the movie. That was California for me.

California was pretty nice in the 40s, 50s, and 60s. I remember thinking how odd it was that there were gangs back in the east. If there were gangs in California, they weren’t in control of much of anything. As a kid I rode the Pacific Electric from Long Beach to L.A., alone and was never bothered even though it made stops in Watts and Willowbrook. California used to be better.
