Was she drinking? it sounds like she remembers fragments. if it was her that was actually “stumbling drunk”, someone could have done something resembling what she says happened, but it could have been anybody.

When you read her backstory, it’s clear this was all manufactured for a character assassination. The dems know it, the media knows, most republicans probably know it. The dems should get acting awards for the grave concern they are showing over these accusations.

She could be. He could be. They both could be.

Or they could have both been drunk, had a consensual encounter, and each have vague memories of it.

Right now, we just don’t know.

My guess, though, based on the evidence we have so far, is that she’s lying.

My memory is probably incomplete, but I seem to recall all those girls at 4-H Chorus Summer Camp being better looking than that.

I am now a senior citizen. I vividly remember my experience with a child molester when I was seven, also a rape at knife point when I was 30, an attempted rape by a law student when I was 20, and an attempted rape by a lawyer when I was 28. Sober lawyers know just how far they can go without a technical definition of rape. In each case I remember vivid details of every aspect of the physical happenings as well as exactly how I was feeling. I also remember 9/11 very vividly from a visual perspective, but the feelings I had then have faded, other than the generalized horror. However, my feelings on these sexual assaults can still be summoned up with great clarity, as well as the event details. I think about those events every few years when something in the news reminds me of them. They memory remains clear and the same.

Memory test: I remember a Christmas party in Dec. 1963 at which two of my friends got drunk - one dead drunk and asleep on an enclosed side porch stairway - and the other more tipsy drunk than drunk drunk.

Well, We pulled H inside to keep him from freezing and friends took him home. I took my friend home and turned him over to his sister (who I dated once and liked as a friend) and her boyfriend (her choice surprised me as he was a well known playboy and betrayer - he knocked her up, got married to her, then he and his father went to jail over an illegal business transaction). I met her a few years later and she gave me the details. She finally met a decent guy and married him.

Meanwhile, I went back to the party and ended up with a dyed hair blond who needed some comforting because it was cold.

I remember the house/street, her name, and, well, the rest of my memory is hazy. I should have taken notes in case I was ever nominated to be a supreme court judge.

Ask me what I had for dinner last week and all I can do is guess.

Now, is this a made-up story, true, or partially true? I’ll leave that up to your imagination.

Now where did I put those photographs?

Maybe she is part of the activated resistance. Is it legal to knowing lie to subvert aSupreme Court nominee?

Something was said in the news about lie detector tests. I say, test them both, let that sort it out.

You could also have refused to be alone with a woman your entire life...and put up with the rants that Pence gets to experience.

Well, if Kavanaugh was to be believed then he never was in the room alone or with others, with this woman. He may well have never met her before. She claims she met him, has no proof but we are supposed to believe her because #MeToo

That's a ridiculous standard that makes a mockery of fairness. It is a weapon against men, and only against men.

The advocates for this absurd policy haven't thought it through. If it continues men will, rationally, become unwilling to work with or socialize with woman, except their wives, daughters and family members.

We'll be back to the days of the Men's Club, the all-male power lunches, and other things that the ladies just spent 50 years making go away.

It might be a little more hidden in the future, but it will happen. In fact I would go so far as to say it is happening, at least in some places.

Be careful what you wish for: you may get it good and hard.

Patrick Leahy gave it away at the end of his interview Monday night with Judy Woodruff on PBS. It’s about payback for Merrick Garland.

Yep.

I tell people that the "Pence rule" is just a common sense practice among men (and now women) who know that accusations of sexual impropriety will ruin their life and work.

It does not have to be true. In fact it can be more damaging then if it is.

People will forgive you if you confess and act sorry but will tear you apart if you maintain your innocents.

Perhaps her ‘repressed memory’ is a repressed fantasy.

If I were up for a big important job would those girls, now in their fifties (many of them probably grandmothers) pop out of the woodwork?

Dad?

It could have been horseplay that somehow got misremembered.

I don't get it. One girl in a party with four boys. She doesn't know whose house it was. Or how she got there. And she's drinking with four high school boys who probably don't have anything interesting to say. And she's wearing a bathing suit. It sounds a little like a Glen Ridge situation (with the jocks and the retarded girl).

I notice that she may have been from Potomac and he from Bethesda. I guess you have to cross I-495 to get from one town to the other (unless they went there from school), so somebody would have driven somebody there (unless there was bus service). Maybe somebody from the area knows better.

Maybe something like this actually happened, but she got the names and details scrambled in her memory -- or maybe it didn't. We live in the age of the "higher truth." People are convinced that the real and truest truth is that "the other side" wants to destroy them, so anything that hurts the other side is "true" in the sense that it serves the higher cause.

Or it could be the most blatant and cynical political desperation ploy in memory.

Yup. That’s it. You can’t run for dog catcher now. The only person fit for high office is the guy in high school who weighed 280 lbs and sat in a corner of the lunch yard wiping his nose on his sleeve. That guy is fit to serve on the Supreme Court. Football team, out. Swim team, out. Drama club boys, well, maybe they still have a chance, right Justice Roberts?

Hey. And I don’t mean this personally about Pence. A Pence kind of guy MIGHT ALSO HAVE ONCE BEEN AGGRESSIVE SEXUALLY AT 16. It might have led him to his stronger and stricter behavioral codes as he got older and married. Apparently Kavanaugh is not far from it. Having been too wild once or more at 16 doesn’t mean you won’t be a very good adult.
