Unless the inspector general sent in a team to scan/copy everything in their desks and private file cabinets beforehand. I doubt they trusted whatever general paper files the FBI has with this so the evidence was kept close at hand.
If they are willing to give up Hillary, Lynch, Comey, Yates and Brennan I am ok with them getting a deal.

Printed documents can have written edits, notes, initials, signatures, even fingerprints. The uncirculated original can be created if it started as a computer file.

If Session’s really is doing something then the question wouldn’t be why did he do nothing, but a debate on his strategy.
If the Rats take the House then it falls on Sessions for allowing it. If he has this time right and wammo before the election all this drops then he’s a hero (if GOP keeps the House and Senate). Otherwise his strategy failed.
I personally question any strategy that would allow the opposition to run rampant as they have for 2 years. There is plenty evidence in the FISA warrant alone to arrest most of the key players—and go up the chain. Personally it’s going up the chain I think has them afraid and wanting to do this convoluted long investigation (assuming he is). They are trying to get rid of the deep state without hurting the politicians (Hillary, Obama, Sen. Warner, etc...)

I really believe the FISA declassify will lead a clear path to Obama.
Once a paper document is destroyed, it’s pretty much gone, even if you watched somebody destroy it.

If you make copies of all the files before the originals are burned or shredded then you don’t have to put them back together except for a couple to show what was done. Shredded documents can and are put back together by these kind of people, burn bags, not so much.
Also the release of unredacted Comey, McCabe , Strzok, Page , & Ohr text messages is devestating.
