Secretary of State Mike Pompeo on Saturday criticized Russia for its failure to cooperate with the U.S. on the world stage despite overtures by President Donald Trump to develop a relationship with the Kremlin.
They have not proven helpful in the Ukraine, in Syria, Pompeo said on NBC News Meet the Press in an interview set to air Sunday.
The State Department last week imposed sanctions on Chinas Equipment Development Department for its purchase of Russian combat aircraft and surface-to-air missile equipment. On Saturday, Pompeo pointed to those economic penalties as evidence of the Trump administrations efforts to push back against Russia's malign activity around the world.
There's a handful of other places in the world where we do have overlapping interests, although certainly not values, Pompeo said. They're a country that's very different from ours in that respect.

Weird. Huge economic sanctions, kicking out most of their diplomats, closing their long open field office in San Francisco, blaming them for Hillary’s loss, berating them continuously for not celebrating homo culture, and now, arresting a Russian girl for wanting to bring 2A and NRA concepts to Russia as a spy.
You mean all of that HASN’T made them decide they better jump in and support our foreign policy? A foreign policy which has a centerpiece of Nato moving into Ukraine right up the their border, sailing into Sevastopol harbor, and deposing their long time Ally Assad to create a sunni theocracy.
Bunch of Russian ingrates can’t recognize our good friendship when they see it./s
DC makes me laugh.
You’re wrong DesertRhino. They have been quite nasty to Trump in particular, despite his putting his neck out for better relations amidst all the nonsense he is dealing with D.C.
The Christian faithful of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church are moving towards autocephaly (autonomy) from the Moscow patriarchate with Belarus to follow suit next. Wouldn’t be happening if Russia weren’t acting so viciously. People feel spiritually violated by the Kremlin now, not just politically or militarily.
There are already a couple of independent Ukrainian Orthodox Churches, are there not?
Yes Jacob, but the largest and most significant body is the one that has been attached to Moscow.
In the midst of antiRussia animosity, Trump has been the only one trying to mend things with them. It is Trump’s feminine side to not go for confrontation at the outset.
Putin is being a total a$$hole, and why wouldn’t he be? He concocted recruitment of Hillary with Uranium One and now has control of the Democrat party as a result, much like a rookie cop gets trapped by an old pimp and lashes out
Thank you for your common sense response.
Also worth noting Putin's influence over Germany's Angela Merkel and former Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder who was appointed chairman of Russia's Rosneft...Their multi-billion dollar Nord Stream II pipeline deal with Russia - a slap in the face to America, Poland, and long term European security interests.
