You can grow tobacco in your back yard too, but I don’t see lots of people doing that. Most will choose convenience over cost. What I do see as the big trend are value added products, concentrates, vape and edibles.

If a pack of smokes cost $150, everyone would grown their own tobacco. Or buy it on the black market for $100.

You may be right about the value added product. But note that there is not all that much money in growing tobacco anymore. The big tobacco companies are busy peddling their wares abroad and acquiring soft drink, candy and snack food makers. This includes even the famous government monopoly better known as Japan Tobacco. Last I heard, tobacco products made up less than 10% of their revenue in the home country.
