Completely doable. It doesn’t claim to be an exhaustive search but it does catch enough to chart ... fascinating article if it weren’t for its own rhetoric.

In one of Scott Adams’s podcasts, he explained that the a friend of his (in the business) sent the meme to Scott, and he simply spread the word about it.

Yes, it was important for the Times to get this out there before the elections to subtly prep their readers for the obvious disappointment coming.

If you’re creating a meme, another useful site is RhymeZone.com

I’ve been following r/The_Donald for the last year and watched all this happen with this meme. Amazingly the NYT largely gets it right.

Note there have been indications, including in advertising sales info from Reddit, that the real number of users is as much as 10X that. Reddit owner Spez is a sili-valley Leftist and barely tolerates r/The_Donald.

The NY Times can generate a time line for slogans on the internet? I doubt they have that capability.
They can go through Sarah Palins trash for weeks but they don’t have the capacity to trace multiple posts through multiple servers.
If they did, then why don’t they have Hillary’s emails?
This was the product of someone in the swamp with a lot of technical wherewithal.

"Completely doable"

I challenged this in my post (#31) before reading your post. Can you elaborate?

I think NYTimes could do this analysis with its own resources as long as it got its hands on the “big data analytics” tools that are routinely available to large companies.

The tweets on Major Twitter site are tracked historically for brand damage by big corporations, so I’m sure that search words like “jobs not mobs” can be analyzed.

They may have cheated a bit on the number of little blue dots for each timeframe, but the graphic seems credible and is a novel way of showing trends in the public domain.

While I am hate New York Times bias, I congratulate them on this graphic.

GraceG said “where” not who.

I was thinking the same thing. That’s where I saw it first and most often. Of course I don’t follow breitbart(or anyone) on facebook. I don’t watch Scott Adams’(or anyone’s) podcasts either
