Have enjoyed reading this author's work. However, a quick scan suggests he is basing much of his argument on the mistaken theory that the American voter is generally, if not always, sensible.

My observations over past decades suggests otherwise, that we are approaching a tipping point. But only because we have had an increasing influx of voters from different cultures who, along with a growing number of native Americans, remain uninformed as to the promise our nation offers.

A most excellent and perceptive post.

I agree that he is overstating the sensibility and motives of American voters. I also agree that cultural and demographic changes have, and will continue to, change this country is profound (and disturbing) ways.

We are not on a good long term trajectory. Many voters are attracted to the promises of something for nothing. The thought of “free stuff” at someone else’s expense is a powerful inducement.

We are becoming a nation of Takers rather than Makers. Add identity politics to the mix and you have recipe for national decline.
