Matt Stone and Trey Parker the South Park creators known for their take-no-prisoners mockery of cultural issues from both sides of the sociopolitical aisle apparently are feeling a little guilty for mocking Al Gores climate change evangelism.
See, way back in 2006, a South Park episode featured the former vice president warning South Park Elementary School students about the single biggest threat to our planet i.e., ManBearPig, a monster representing climate change, NBC News reported.
Gore was a month away from releasing An Inconvenient Truth when that episode came out and the network noted that since ManBearPig was fictional, that suggested Stone and Parker were mocking climate change.
How things, um, change
But in this weeks episode, Time to Get Cereal, ManBearPig turns up and kills several residents.
So the kids track down Gore in a bowling alley and confess hes totally right and that ManBearPig is real and ask for Gores help.
His reply? Sucks for you.
After they beg, an indignant Gore turns on them: Oh, is it inconvenient now? I tried to warn you all, but you didnt take me cereal. You all just made fun of me, didnt you? Well, now you can just deal with it yourselves.
Gore finally relents but only after he forces the kids to apologize: Say youre sorry for making fun of me. They do, and the hunt for ManBearPig moves forward.
A writer for AV Club noted that it was enjoyable and cathartic to see Trey and Matt admit they were wrong and that when you consider that no one was really asking them to make this episode, the fact that they took it upon themselves to do so is an admirable display of responsibility.
Don’t worry kids I am not really Manbearpig, it’s me Al Gore.
Al Gore is still an idiot.
SouthPark has jumped the ManBearPig...
Backsliding wimp appoligizer PC fascist supporting cretins.
[Though I’m sure Laz could do better....]
Aint this the in my youth, I did invent the internet, guy ?
Well because an actual ManBearPig related demon is killing children. And ALgore did summon Satan for assistance. ( Cannot believe I typed that)
Did not seem to say climate change was real.
Probably the BEST episode EVER!
But no South Park episode can do a darn thing to stop my ex-wife from farting. :)
I quit SP years ago.
Manbearpig deserves nothing but life in the slam and all assets confiscated at the least.
Death row for his crimes would also suffice.
Sorry avclub writer, its still mocking owlgore
Climate change is real. It will happen no matter what we do.
MAN MADE climate change is BS of the highest order.
The Apostles of Climate Panic are using it to advance international federation and socialism ... two of the biggest ideological turds to ever float down the river of human history.
Manbearpig sold out to the evil one a long time ago just like Arkansas grifters.
I dumped South Park when they refused to make fun or jokes about target rich Obama 10 years ago.
My dropping them was sometime before that.
They still made him and Gore-Bull Worming look like Jack $h!t
That's what I thought.
