Dear Lord please help us all, and to You be the praise
11/10/2018 | What the Lord put on my heart

For years and years I've watched the political climate go downhill in America.

Even Donald Trump hasn't been a cure, only a figurative Dutch boy with his finger in the dike. A large and bulging segment of society has gone frankly profligate and has just pushed the House of Representatives over the line. "Liberal" (though that is what the profligacy movement sounds like) has been left behind. Profligacy is illiberal. Liberals of old would have engaged in reasoned discourse with the conservatives of old. The new ones scream and throw tantrums.

We've been for a long time under the assumption that the political system itself is a shelter against wrong. And more and more that assumption is failing.

I wish to reassert to all who will listen that our ultimate and best shelter is found not even in politics but in God. It is only He who can put His hand upon a cursed situation, extract the devil from it, and turn it into a blessing. Mere human powered political activity cannot do this. And this won't happen in the context of the inaction of His people. Prayers and thanksgivings must take place. When God is glorified, more of His glory follows. When God is given short attention, less of His glory follows.

It looks to me from some recent events that God is leading Donald Trump himself down that path; though he began as nominal at best from a lukewarm mainline church following, those gathering around him have been insisting on more in God's name. This is the place where we should always repair to at the end of the day. We can discuss human machinations all night and day till we are tired, but the Lord is head of it all and we ourselves are part of that. We don't get to be spectators in this sport. Do we have a burden for the country? Then let's not merely criticize. Let's call on the Lord, Who is above all criticism, for His grace and blessing in this trying situation, on the basis of His promises.

Amen, and thank you for the words of clarity.

There’s a point there. In standing up for a more classic view of America he has obtained the opposition of many fiery darts.

Trump has bought some time. Will we now turn to the Lord and beseech much blessing to make this moment count for eternity too? I believe it’s possible.

The easy acceptance of abortion is a symptom of more fundamental evil. If our hearts are willing and desirous of being used to bring the Spirit to bear to end that evil, the Lord will speak to us in terms we understand. It is a chilling, killing dearth of love that makes possible the contemplation of such a thing as our modern easy abortion.

God bless the witness of your baptism. In the New Testament, baptism in water frequently appears as the outward confirmation of the hope that results from the spiritual immersion (or baptism) in the Holy Spirit. It is the voluntary recognition of the pledge made by the Holy Spirit of a good conscience towards God.

I suspect that most theologians understand that individuals experience many doubts.

Not necessarily doubts about Christ and redemption, but doubts about themselves being worthy.

I accepted Christ as my Lord and Savior.

What am I to do about it now?

Let me not count that as a cause for a stiff (red :-) neck, but as a confirmation that the Lord has been talking sense. Yes He’d have the right to condemn this world in an instant, but to do that is not where His heart is. And so he renews our strength even beyond our own belief, while moving our hearts toward His by His grace and mercy. The result is a pinch play that defeats Satan and raises glory to God.

The result will be to “work out” (bring forward the divine work of) one’s salvation with “fear and trembling.” One’s call will repeatedly appear to be beyond one’s resources. One will stagger at the imbalance. Then grace will appear and move the mountain with power.

When God acted in the bible, the sinful reaction of His people was often to become blase’. That is why it was necessary, when God executed the plan of His heart, to cause grace to superabound when sin abounded.

Love is also not sitting around idly while the wolves rip and tear apart the sheep.

Thanks for the reference to the “The Way I Am” song. It sounds like Paul’s story.

Kneework before God isn’t “sitting around idly.”

For all the talk of a shooting war, I think we know what would actually happen. Huge sectors of America would scream to the government to make it stop. Result: humiliation.

Kneeling is important.

I’m talking about even your neighbors house.

You see armed robbers going in, do you sit and pray and call the police, or do you go over to confront the threat?

I was afraid that the American people couldn’t understand the distinction.

Being ready to do that doesn’t justify making it the gravamen of your social and spiritual plan.

I mean, it has a role in this fallen world. And God bless it. By making it difficult enough to get away with crime, the foolish will learn wisdom. But there is a tempered medium here. We do not want a society run chiefly by guns.
