Trump’s rain decision casts dark clouds over his Paris trip

PARIS — President Donald Trump’s decision to cancel his visit to an American military cemetery outside of Paris threatened to overshadow his trip here, as government officials, historians and fellow Republicans hammered him for more than 24 hours for that move.

“President@realDonaldTrump a no-show because of raindrops? Those veterans the president didn’t bother to honor fought in the rain, in the mud, in the snow — & many died in trenches for the cause of freedom. Rain didn’t stop them & it shouldn’t have stopped an American president,” wrote former Secretary of State John Kerry, a veteran of the Vietnam War.

The internet lit up Saturday and Sunday with images of other world leaders braving gray skies to lay wreaths, unveil plaques and pay their respects at memorials and cemeteries outside of Paris during a weekend to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the end of World War I.

French President Emmanuel Macron and German Chancellor Angela Merkel lay a floral wreath on Saturday afternoon at Compiègne, the site where the agreement that stopped World War I was signed. Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau visited the World War I battlefield, Vimy Ridge, where he greeted Canadian veterans.

The White House opted to drop the trip for the president due to rainy weather because the president’s Marine One helicopter cannot fly in rain or fog.

I agree. I hope there waS a real reason other than rain. It’s a public relations nightmare.
You can fly 3000 miles but not make the last 50. Secret service get weather reports and contingency plans would have been made. Our dead soldiers deserved better.

Posts #23 for starter..."I DON'T SIMPLY ROLL OVER FOR WHATEVER TRUMP SAYS OR DOES." and the rest of that post, as well as your original post #17.

I see that you have ignore my original post to you about Clinton and the idiotic "rocks laying" on Normandy Beach, on the 50th anniversary of D DAY. WHY IS THAT?

And now you have been sort of backtracking a bit. Melting from the heat you're getting; snowflake.

Next time THINK before you hit the post button.

Hey, it’s Politico. Can be safely ignored.

Helicopters and low ceilings and wind and rain do not get along together.

The folks tending President Trump and Melania made the right call. ALWAYS stray towards their safety. Period.

Good question. The President does nothing willy-nilly. Whatever it was he was willing to take flak for it.

Their goal is to give the masses a reason to hate the President as much as they do. I think, at this point, most or many people see past their manipulations.

Now, we need President Trump, while pointing out the truth of the matter, will call them a “name,” which will be clever and memorable.

Ah, so here is the post I missed.

Again, you ASSume things. How do you think I like Klintoon and fell for that Normandy stuff? Based on me making a comment 20 years later on Trump missing a WWI ceremony!

Clinton didn’t make the cross, he conveniently found it on the beach, obviously a set-up, and Billy’s lip-biting could commence for the cameras and reporters. So no, I think Klintoon was one of the biggest phonies ever and a complete SOB.

"Trup-uber-alles"...?

REALLY?

Only a #NEVERTRUMPER would say such an abominable thing.

Obviously you don't come here all THAT often, or you would have seen that I and others bash Trump for stuff he does that counts.

And you answered the SECOND reply I made to to, whilst IGNORING the first one about Clinton, because I hit an open nerve. Ergo, yes, you ARE a snowflake and deserve all of the incoming you're getting on this thread.

If Trump had ordered a motorcade instead of flying by helicopter, they would have hammered him for that as well. Let’s face it, they have decided that everything he does or doesn’t do, or says or doesn’t say is offensive to them.

Yes, I’d like to see more thorough reporting. This story was really disjointed. I would like to know what the itinerary was at least, to get better context. Have to see if there are better reports. I just came back from the grocery and finally really sat to look at FR this weekend, and this is the first thing I saw besides the FL vote controversy.

I "ASSumed" nothing!

Clinton did NOT "find the cross on the beach"; HE MADE IT OUT OF ROCKS PLACED THERE FOR HIM !

I was simply pointing out Clinton's, the MSM's, and YOUR utter hypocrisy.

Get a grip, man.

No, I am here FREQUENTLY, as I know you are too. I know your “name”.

I say TUA because I know on FR most cannot once criticize Trump. It’s like they’re afraid to show any “weakness” to Dems, like criticizing their own means they are RINOs or just weak-kneed Republican.

You call some Never Trump, needs to be something that hits the opposite right back. Prefer EverTrump? Ok.

And back off on the accusations. I DID NOT see your first post often getting raked over the coals with so many, and I often scroll all the way down and go backwards because it’s easier to see what’s happened since I just posted another thing. I DIDN’t IGNORE ANYTHING, just didn’t catch it yet.

I am sure ABC, CBS, NBC, and PBS would like nothing better than to have us all go back to antenna TV. Back in those days (I remember well) they really and truly controlled the narrative. What they did to President Nixon (NOT A CROOK!!!!!!) is exactly what they are trying to do to President but it is not working due to the fact there are many popular voices who have the means to be heard crying out against it. Of course, this censorship we are seeing is an attempt to quiet those voices, I hope they do not succeed but I think we had better be prepared for it, and find other ways to speak out and organize to fight this.

Big deal. That is MY memory of something 20 years back. Same basic conclusion.

You have NO reason to libel me on this. You have ZERO knowledge of my a) knowledge of the Clinton even and b) how I reacted to it then and now.

Which BTW, I just stated what I think of Klintoon and his fakery. But you don’t give a rip because God forbid, I wavered on whether Trump should show up or not.

Cut the garbage.
