Exactly. I was dreading the fact that Atlanta was one of the finalist’s. One small locale, east of Atlanta was willing to rename the place, Amazon. Interestingly, it’s a middle class, predominantly black area. All of whom would have been quickly priced out of the area due to higher property taxes, etc, that they would have had to pay, in the kickback to Bezos. Of course, Georgia would be promising all of them jobs, but there’s only so many jobs for the locals. The 6-figure ones go to all the liberal, hipster transplants that ruin everything.

Local news here in NJ was pretending Newark was a serious contender; Senator T-Bone Spartacus was touting Newark’s “highly educated workforce” as reason to move here (seriously). The problem is nobody wants to work in Newark (the companies that remain there have a very hard time attracting talent - and none of it is “local”), and the tax breaks they offer simply burden the real taxpayers of the state with more of Newark’s bills. The Queens people upset with having Amazon come in understand that they needed companies which they could suck dry to pay for their public school unions, free lunch programs (that extend over the summer as well), street repairs, etc.; to basically PAY Amazon to come in made no sense to them. The six-figure jobs these HQs allegedly offer won’t be filled by too many locals...
