Well, for the longest time employers were taking multiple interviews and months to decide.
I got hired over 15 years ago at my present company when the supervisor at the time called the company I was at (ISP) and needed some help with her personal Outlook email account. As we talked I told her the place was closing and would she have any openings at her place. I was just making conversation and did not expect anything. She replied that they had 2 openings and to send my resume. I emailed it during the call as everyone was working on theirs at the time : )
She looked it over and said to come in on Tuesday. I did and met the manager who had flown in from back east and he said after the interview that they will let me know. I thought that was it but I got a call and asked to come in again on Thursday. I was given a piece of paper with an offer and it was $11,000 more then I was being paid so with my best poker face I said I would take the job. I was very excited on the way home!
I was asked if I could start on Monday but I told them I had to stay at the other company for another week to qualify for the extra severance pay they offered and also I had no vacation in over 4 years so I asked to start after another week after that. They agreed.... : )
They have regretted it ever since!
