Jim Acosta: White House Is Planning to Suspend CNN Reporter's Press Pass Again
Newsweek ^ | November 19, 2018 | Katherine Hignett

White House officials are planning to suspend CNN reporter Jim Acosta’s press pass again, after a judge ordered them to temporarily restore it Friday, CNN has reported.

Officials sent a letter to Acosta with a view to revoking his newly regained privileges at the end of the month, the network stated.

CNN issued a statement Sunday claiming officials were “[violating] the First and 5th Amendments of the Constitution.” “These actions threaten all journalists and news organizations,” the statement continued. “Jim Acosta and CNN will continue to report the news about the White House and the President.”

Officials revoked Acosta’s press pass November 7 after a press conference with President Donald Trump. During a heated exchange between the pair, a White House intern attempted to take the microphone from Acosta’s hand. The reporter—CNN's chief White House correspondent—kept hold of the microphone and tried to finish asking a question, saying, “Pardon me, ma’am,” to the intern.

White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders later shared what appeared to be doctored footage of the interaction, sped up to make Acosta’s reaction to the woman look like an attempt to restrain her arm....

Sorry Katherine. 2DV is right.

BTW, what is the 5th Amendment argument? The takings clause?

The simplest answer would be for the President and/or Press Secretary to just never acknowledge Acosta as a questioner. Never let him have access to a microphone. Let tjhe uncomfortable silences begin.....

“Jim Acosta and CNN will continue to report the news about the White House and the President.”

First Amendment intact. Move along.

For what reason should the White House tolerate rude partisan hacks among the press corps? Pulling the passes of rude individuals is not the same as preventing the news media from reporting.

Since much of the mainstream media has been refusing to report the news for decades, I don’t see what their complaint is, anyway.

Yes. The Fifth Amendment prohibits takings of life, liberty, or property without due process of law.

Never let him have access to a microphone.

They should totally freeze out all CNN reporters. Make CNN suffer. Freeze out CNN until CNN decides that Accosta can no longer go to the White House. If he's in the room and acts like a jerk, ignore him. If ignoring him becomes impossible, end the news conference -- make all the news outlets suffer.

From the 5th Amendment -

"...nor be deprived of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law..."

Apparently the wording was construed to mean the "liberty" to use the "property", in this case the possession of the hard pass. The hard pass was taken administratively without resort to appearance before a court.

The "hard pass" is a PRIVILEGE, not a commodity that may be bought, sold, or leased out in any way, shape, form or manner, and therefore fails to meet the definition of "property".

I don’t get it either.

To make a “due process” argument would require starting from the position that there is a Constitutional right to report from the White House. There isn’t.

Even if there were, the courts have long held that the government can place reasonable restrictions on time, place, and manner.

I would really like to know this judge’s “reasoning”.

Ultimately, it won’t matter. President Trump is doing the right thing, preparing formal guidelines for reporters granted the *privilege* of entering the WH.

“These actions threaten all journalists and news organizations...”

No, all the other journalists are fine, because they don’t behave like rude petulant children, as Jim Accoster does.

Don’t bother playing their game. Just end all press conferences, don’t give a reason, and let them figure it out that there will be no press conferences while Acosta is employed by any news organization.

Meanwhile, Trump can give one-on-one interviews exclusively to Breitbart and One America News.

Acosta can keep the pass if that’s what the ‘judge’ is claiming as his property. It just won’t work anymore. Like a key when the locks have been changed.

It is hard to find video now that shows the widest of the touching... cnn edits it completely out... hmmmm

Cspan has it but edits to it right as it happens making it easily missed.

But it wasn’t so heavy handed, but he shouldn’t have done it.

Why doesn’t CNN reassign him to RT News? They can sit any hack in the White House Press corp. They proved that by putting Jim Acosta there.

5th Amendment...”witness against himself”...Acosta accuses himself and proves he is unfit to be part of the WH press corps every time he opens his mouth...

this not an 1st Amendment case...the press is not being banned from the WH...just an individual...some other CNN ijit can do the so called ‘reporting’
