That photo was taken while Deng was in power - little has changed since - perhaps they use a different caliber now. BTW: other pictures of the same scene show many others being executed in the same manner along the wall.

I have an American-Chinese friend who grew up in Communist China, before it’s so-called “capitalism” phase.

To say that “everyone had government healthcare” says (a) nothing about the quality of care or even the quality of medicine and (b) ignores that the political elite in China, and their personally favored political serfs, always had it better than the average Chinese person, even with regard to healthcare.

There was nothing “equal” about healthcare in China, unless you were only referring to the masses, and not those running the show, and what was “equal” was the poor quality of it.
