I describe it as it happened while I was monitoring and reporting news on my blog from the Paris protests. It needs follow up and I wanted it to be on the record.

That’s some nasty stuff. Occasionally I was exposed to it in the Refrigeration field though not a super pure form of it.

It looks like the phosgene story can be traced back to a BBC report that the Been may have either retracted or sent down a memory hole. Can’t find any confirmation on the use of phosgene.

Low does of phosgene are FATAL. 50 PPM IIRC will induce severe pulmonary edema.

Your lungs drown, you die.

Has to be a translation issue.

Phosgene, which smells like moldy hay, is also an irritant but six times more deadly than chlorine gas. Phosgene is also a much stealthier weapon: it’s colorless, and soldiers did not at first know they had received a fatal dose. After a day or two, victims’ lungs would fill with fluid, and they would slowly suffocate in an agonizing death. Although the Germans were the first to use phosgene on the battlefield, it became the primary chemical weapon of the Allies. Phosgene was responsible for 85% of chemical-weapons fatalities during World War I.

Phosgene is used in plastics manufacturing, so it is an available chemical. It would be grotesque if the government was using this, but governments have done many grotesque things to their own citizens through history, including murder by the millions.

Yeah, and it just happened to be laying around in a deployable state today, not in 100 year old artillery rounds. ‘Hey, let’s use this!’

I am still waiting for Al Queda’s suitcase nukes to be exploded.

If the French were using gas, the Germans and the Brits would already be moving on Paris. No one is going to let that crap happen in the west without a significant response.

If a nation used phosgene against an enemy in wartime, that would be a war crime. To do so against rioting civilians in your in country is inconceivable, especially when governments have gases that can make people vomit and skunkspray, which would disperse any crowd. I call BS on this report.

Phosgene is a nerve gas. I guess Macron intends to do what it takes to stay in power.

Blog promotion beside the point, if you’re trying to be a ‘citizen journalist’, at least try to come up with something credible.

Absolutely should be investigated. And if adequate proof is found that Macron used gas on his own rebels, a certain faction in the US government should formulate plans for a regime change that they’ve been bent on accomplishing in Syria.

https://emergency.cdc.gov/agent/phosgene/basics/facts.asp

(CDC) Immediate signs and symptoms of phosgene exposure

During or immediately after exposure to dangerous concentrations of phosgene, the following signs and symptoms may develop:

Coughing
Burning sensation in the throat and eyes
Watery eyes
Blurred vision
Difficulty breathing or shortness of breath
Nausea and vomiting
Skin contact can result in lesions similar to those from
frostbite or burns
Following exposure to high concentrations of phosgene, a
person may develop fluid in the lungs (pulmonary edema)
within 2 to 6 hours.
Exposure to phosgene may cause delayed effects that may
not be apparent for up to 48 hours after exposure, even if
the person feels better or appears well following removal
from exposure. Therefore, people who have been exposed to
phosgene should be monitored for 48 hours afterward.

Delayed effects that can appear for up to 48 hours include
the following:

Difficulty breathing
Coughing up white to pink-tinged fluid (a sign of pulmonary
edema)
Low blood pressure
Heart failure

—>Showing these signs or symptoms does not necessarily mean that a person has been exposed to phosgene.<—

Kind of hard to believe - that comes when they start using live ammo to mow down big swaths of the crowds.
