The only time the bayonet was affixed was when it was needed. They never carried their weapons with bayonet fixed - only when they absolutely needed it - and never when going through brush. It would have been exceptionally rare to have any member of the militia armed with a weapon that carried a bayonet. They generally ran when the word "bayonet" was even mentioned.
The only weapon capable of firing 5 - 7 rounds per minute during the Revolution was the British Ferguson Rifle and there were only 100 of those made..
The reason I was unenthused about that story is I am a combat veteran and the prose didn't sound authentic.
