“Why not Lt. Col. Allen West for the next Secretary of Defense?”
The argument will be that it would be too many echelons above his experience level. They would want at least someone who served for a while as a General, Likely only three or four stars would get serious consideration. His brief stint as a Congressman is probably his best qualification, but even there, Governors or Senators would be more competitive.
He was my first thought for the position.
What has he run larger than a battalion? The Sec Def is a big, big job. Not one for middle managers.
That was my thought. The skills to manage a very large organization are not developed overnight.
I suspect that is part of what happened with Sessions. Huge difference from being a Senator to being AG of the Department of Justice.
He’d be excellent in almost any administration position, but Trump would have to fight like everything to convince the committee to approve him.
I don’t think, as a general rule, SECDEF should be a serving or recently retired officer. The legislation which created the position specified seven years off the active list for a former officer, which seems about right.
But there’s another problem. Any man who got a third or fourth star since January 20, 1988 is most likely a sold-out globalist who will always be looking out for engagement with our “allies” and will put the interests of American citizens far down on his shopping list of important things.
We need a nationalist in that position, and nationalists have had a very hard time advancing past LTC for a very long time.
The LAST thing we need is another neocon in a military strategy position. Trump ran on gettng us OUT of all these insane foreign commitments. He got talked out of it by Kelly and Mattis (whom I loved!).
Time to move on.
West is not with the program. Although non-establishment.
I would certainly support Col West for DOD Sec.
All True.
What other candidates are there?
Senior Politicians? Industry Leaders?
Senior bureaucrats are probably even more ethically/politically compromised than the senior flag officers.
prior to him being redistricted out of an office he was my Congress critter and he was great.
Great choice.
Good Man.
I wish James Woods would run for Congress or Senate. If he is not going to I would at least see him appointed to something like SecDef. He has an astronomical IQ matched with equal common sense and would be great to head up any department. His name recognition is also a big plus.
NO one on the hill has a better grasp at Islam than he. Search West and Islam on youtube and you will see what I mean.
Contrary to popular belief, SECDEF doesn't run the Department. He has a crapload of Secretaries, Under Secretaries, Deputy Under Secretaries, and the Joint Staff to do that.
He just needs to be RIGHT on the important decisions. Like the orientation of the Department to the current and gathering threats. Allen is a quick read. He would make a very good SECDEF because he'd bring Christians in. Jerry Boykin and such-- and then return to Aristotelian logic, sacking the "new knowledge" that is permeating the DoD now.

That would be the Peter Principle in action. There's a bunch of topics from 2016 agitating for West to be VP running mate. He might work out as an ambassador, depending on the country.
Whoever the new secretary of Defense will be, he will get into office as a peacemaker. Then, he’ll immediately join Defense to defeat enemies of the U.S.A.

Whoever the president picks needs to be ready to support the military protecting our southern border and rounding up massive numbers of domestic enemies—mostly deep state types.
Love him but no.
California is so riddled by Demonrat electoral fraud that Mr. Woods could never be seated even if he won the legitimate vote count. He’d have to move to another state.
