A Holiday Mystery: Why Did John Roberts Intervene in the Mueller Probe?
Pollutico ^ | December 30, 2018 | NELSON W. CUNNINGHAM

A mysterious grand jury subpoena case has been working itself through the D.C. courts since August. Doughty reporting by Politico linked the grand jury case to special counsel Robert Mueller. Some of us, connecting the dots, wondered whether Mueller’s antagonist in this secret subpoena battle might be President Donald Trump himself. Speculation heightened two weeks ago when the D.C. Circuit cleared an entire floor of reporters assembled for the oral argument, in order to protect the identity of the litigants.

Four days later, the D.C. Circuit judges burst the speculative bubble with a decision that halfway revealed the identity of the party litigating against the government: not Trump, but an unnamed corporation (“the Corporation”) owned by an unnamed foreign state (“Country A”). Although the case is still plenty mysterious (What foreign state? What records of what transactions? Why the hard-fought litigation?), the evident fact that Trump was not directly involved in the litigation seemingly drained further proceedings of direct suspense. Mueller watchers headed off for the holidays.

And then, last week, on the Sunday before Christmas, Chief Justice John Roberts personally intervened in this matter.

That’s right: The chief justice of the United States himself issued an order on a Sunday, in this very case. If you think that’s highly unusual, you’re right. And the action he took was equally unusual. At least for the moment calling into question the unanimous decisions of the courts below, the chief justice blocked the District Court’s order requiring the foreign corporation to comply with the grand jury subpoena, until the government’s lawyers could respond to the Corporation’s briefings.

So now, in abrupt fashion, Mueller’s investigation has suddenly reached the Supreme Court, and with the personal attention of the chief justice, no less.

What does this all mean? Let’s try to unpack it.

Since some foreign corporations are wholly owned by the their respective governments, i.e., China, litigation and subpoenas involving those ‘corporations’ might very well be a matter of National Security, thus the need to have the court proceedings in a restricted and private manner.

The anti-Trumpers out there were greatly disappointed...............

I’m glad this is getting a lot of attention.
From both left and right. People are wondering, what Roberts is really doing here?

Justice Roberts is just trying to do his part to “get” Trump. That’s all.

I think it’s a British firm (used by MI6). Reports saying Israel or Russia seem like a misdirection.

Sounds like it's bad news for the anti-Trumpers.

If this would hurt Trump, it would be reported straight-forwardly instead of reading like an old Hardy Boys mystery novel.

They are now teens and would likely stay here regardless. Curious what his motive is.

If he was being blackmailed over the adoption, the kids are now of majority age so they can’t be taken away. Now that they aren’t what’s making him do the RATS’ bidding, what is?

Most likely that is the issue.

I've seen that theory before but I think there is more to it than his kids adoption.

I think the deep state has him by the real short hair, and knows everything about his life.

The decisions that come out this year, now that it should be 5-4 good guys will be telling.

I haven't trusted this smarmy plick since he discovered a tax in the obummercare bill to make it "legal and constitutional". POS!

Still wouldn't look good. Might be grounds to be removed from The Supreme Court. 'Course, non-payment of taxes should be grounds for removing Al Sharpton form Da House but fat chance of that happening.

If only Roberts hadn't been appointed by a Republican, he'd have nothing to worry about.

You know. Kind of like how demonicRATS who engage in extra-marital affairs and sexual harrassment are allowed to continue in their jobs but Republicans are booted out on their asses.

Because he’s as dirty as the rest of them and wants it all covered up?

Like the Fraud’s “children” and complete personal history, the exact circumstances of John Roberts’ illegal adoption must always remain hidden.

like a broken clock that is right twice a day, the Mueller probe stumbled into hitting on a nerve - a big nerve.

That’s why it’s important for Ruthie to vacate her seat early this year so her replacement doesn’t get tied up in the 2020 election cycle. It would be a “plus” for Breyer to go t!ts up too! We need a SCOTUS that has a bulletproof “strict constructionist” majority. Trump must leave office with a 7-2 Court at the minimum.

I think it’s a British firm (used by MI6).

PURE SPECULATION - The British firm in question is in the business of "intelligence gathering" (truthful or otherwise) and is probably in possession (or they have convinced Roberts that they are) of documents that prove Roberts' children were illegally adopted. Even if they can't be taken from him at this point, he doesn't want the specter of impeachment/removal or even a scandal, despite the fact that it is fairly common knowledge.
