Why do even the rare republicans from Maryland suck?

For a RINO he’s a great governor although he has done virtually nothing for Maryland Conservatives in 2nd Amendment and social policies.

Fiscally he’s done extremely well. He will not receive my vote vs Trump

Well, he was a lot better for us than the ones we might have gotten; I voted for him twice. The election of even a nominal ‘conservative’ in these parts was remarkable, and may have future, positive repercussions.

But he’s really disappointed me in his thinly-veiled antagonism toward Trump.

Hogan can’t run for gov again after his current term is over (though he could, after staying out for a term) and is planning the next move - which is what all professional politicians do. It’s not a good bet to expect real principle or loyalty out of most politicians.

It’s not likely we’ll find a true conservative to run with much chance of winning in Maryland, in the foreseeable future. There are a lot of us Conservatives here, but everything is determined by the population-rich liberal enclaves in the Washington/B-more Metro area. We’ve just had to try our best to hold the line wherever we can.

(On the other hand, I was pretty impressed at how well Trump actually did in my uber-liberal area; so who knows what might come, after 8 years of MAGA?)

He has run against total morons who were to the left of Pol Pot. He’s a sanctuary guy who has let Montgomery and PG county schools go to MS-13. And, I believe there were around six schools in Baltimore that not a single student passed the standardized test for math and English.

To be a natural born citizen and eligible for the US Presidency your parents have to be US citizens at the time of your birth.

Neither of her parents were US citizens at the time of her birth.

As a lifelong resident of Maryland, all I can scream is HELL NO!!!

Hogan has been a NeverTrumper from day one and always jumps at the first opportunity to oppose any position taken by our great POTUS.
He adamantly speaks out against building the Wall and refused to provide National Guard troops to help at the border.
Moreover, he is nominally in favor of sanctuary cities.

Maryland is a disaster area (especially Baltimore) with rampant crime and is exorbitantly taxed.

I have never and would never vote for him under any circumstances.

Finally, I caught a glimpse of “Low Energy” Jeb Bush speaking at Hogan’s second inauguration this week. You can tell a lot about a man by the company he keeps.

Cannot wait to cast my ballot for PDJT again in Maryland’s primary next year.

A natural born citizen is naturally a citizen because they have only one nationality. They could not be anything else.
The children of foreign nationals are also foreign nationals.
We may also grant them citizenship, but they are not naturally Americans because they have other citizenship(s).

Had he an opponent other than Ben Jealous, I'm not sure he would have won reelection.

Hogan is a hero for conservatives in MD.

Hogan has the small eastern state problem. Like Massachusetts, and other small east coast states, people across the country don't think much about governors from those states.

Mitt Romney and Mike Dukakis should be cautionary examples for Hogan to consider.

“implicitly”, “speculation”, “specter of”, “implication”...

Larry doesn’t like you, you should beat him up, Trump’s enemies try to to tell him.

All you Republicans should fight, advises Politico.

This past November/Midterms, I voted straight republican—except I ultimately just gave a grudging vote to the Green Party candidate (I could have merely left that race blank).
I realize that may not make much sense, but Hogan has made me seethe with his thorough rejection of President Trump; I simply could not vote for him in good conscience.

I voted for the republican, Tony Campbell, who ran against Ben Cardin, to no avail. Likewise, I chose all the other GOP candidates for the various state and local offices.
BTW, Maryland has eight CDs and my district is the ONLY one with a GOP Congressman, Dr. Andy Harris.

As far as the governor’s race the first time Hogan ran back in 2014, I must confess to not turning out for that one. I had assumed that then-incumbent Lt. Governor, Anthony Brown was a lock. Moreover, I was rather shocked when Hogan won.

I like former GOP Governor Robert Erhlich, for whom I did vote. It was a dark day when he lost to Martin O’Malley.

In the final analysis, I have no regrets with my decision to NOT support such a vehement anti-Trumper (Hogan) and hope any steps he takes to challenge PDJT fail miserably.

I agree with you.

Usually, the RAT has a major advantage here, carrying Baltimore and the suburban counties around Washington, D.C.

However, there was a hugely effective campaign against Jealous’ policies that educated voters about how costly they would be to taxpayers.
Maryland tends to vote for establishment RATS, not fringe progressives like Jealous.
