Are electric cars worse for the environment? (sure looks that way)
Politico ^ | 5/15/18 | JONATHAN LESSER

**SNIP**

To answer that question, I used the U.S. Energy Information Administration’s most recent long-term forecasts for the number of new electric vehicles through 2050, estimated how much electricity they’d use, and then figured out how much pollution that electricity would generate, looking at three key pollutants regulated under the U.S. Clean Air Act—sulfur dioxide (SO2), oxides of nitrogen (NOX), and particulates—as well as CO2 emissions. I compared them to the emissions of new gasoline-powered vehicles, using the EIA’s “real world” miles-per-gallon forecast, rather than the higher CAFE standard values.

What I found is that widespread adoption of electric vehicles nationwide will likely increase air pollution compared with new internal combustion vehicles. You read that right: more electric cars and trucks will mean more pollution.

That might sound counterintuitive: After all, won’t replacing a 30-year old, smoke-belching Oldsmobile with a new electric vehicle reduce air pollution? Yes, of course. But that’s also where many electric vehicle proponents’ arguments run off the road: they fail to consider just how clean and efficient new internal combustion vehicles are.

“Ending capitalism has always been the goal. “

CONGRATULATIONS!!!! You understand it. I was going to post something to that effect, as MOST PEOPLE, even on our side, actually think electric cars are a ‘well intentioned’ effort to ‘clean up the environment’.

Just like solar and wind, the idea is to SHUT DOWN cheap energy, with ‘alternatives’ being used as stall tactics, to keep people diverted while coal and other fossil fuel plants are dynamited. If we understand WHO THE LEFT IS, we’ll be able to fight them - but instead we STILL assign ‘good intentions’ to them. That is NOT the case.

The REAL LEFT is right in our faces, nearly every day now - her name is Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez - and she is doing our side the favor of OPENLY expressing what virtually all of them discuss between closed doors (and sorry, but even Joe Manchin is one of them). It is up to us, our side, to actually LISTEN TO HER - if we want to leave a livable country to our kids - otherwise they will simply take control.

Yes, the UN finally admitted it a few years ago.

“U.N. Official Reveals Real Reason Behind Warming Scare”

Climate Change> http://www.investors.com/climate-change-scare-tool-to-destroy-capitalism/

At a news conference last week in Brussels, Christiana Figueres, executive secretary of U.N.’s Framework Convention on Climate Change, admitted that the goal of environmental activists is not to save the world from ecological calamity but to destroy capitalism.

“This is the first time in the history of mankind that we are setting ourselves the task of intentionally, within a defined period of time, to change the economic development model that has been reigning for at least 150 years, since the Industrial Revolution,” she said.

And if you go over to the Tesla owner’s forum on Reddit, you’ll rarely see air quality or environmentalism mentioned.

There are lots of posts about performance, though.

IMPRESSIVE!!! The author CLEARLY understands why most people buy electric cars!

All electric cars do is centralize pollution. On top of that, we now have to dispose of their very toxic and massive batteries.

Leftists do not care about solving problems. They only care about implementing whatever makes them feel good regardless of its affect on the world. They then blame all negative affects of their actions onto other people.

Being a leftist means never having to say your sorry.

Energy from oil is free. We just have to take it from the ground, refine it, distribute it and use it.

Energy from sunlight is also free, but an expensive investment is required to be able to grab some of it. Solar panels, windmills. Plus maintenance costs. Plus downtime, at night, or when there’s no wind. Plus the fact that you must use the electricity that you generate when it’s generated. Batteries are expensive and inefficient. And don’t last forever.

And figuring out where all of this electricity is going to come from is way beyond the capability of the liberal mind.

I was about to comment on politico on how this article was ever allowed on that MOONBAT site but found, unsurprisingly, that there is no comment section.

Wind and solar require you to buy two power plants — the wind / solar primary generator AND the backup natural gas powered turbines to supply power during dark or windless times.

Or you buy the windmills and solar cells as plant #1 and you buy the batteries as plant #2.

There is no way it can compete with tech that doesn’t require you to buy plant #2.

It is not so much what you don’t know that will get you in trouble, it’s what you know that ain’t so.

...and what i have read our power distribution network is seriously antiquated, requiring billions to upgrade.
imagine thousands of cars charging at the same time in your town.....
I’ve read of rolling blackouts just due to Air Conditioning usage.

The problem with electric car MPG equivalent is that they use $5/gallon as the ratio to electricity costs. They also use 6.5 cents as the cost of the electricity when 12.5 cents is the national average. This means an electric car gets only about 250-30mpg in equivalent cost to gas.

Wouldn’t used batteries be considered ‘toxic’ waste along with used solar panels that have already been deemed so?

Nobody talks about what happens to all those old batteries when they need replacing. The last I learned is that they are pretty toxic.

If you own a pricey Tesla, you self identify as a leftist. People who have profited or become wealthy due to the freedom and opportunities of capitalism yet become leftists are particularly reprehensible and at their core self loathing.

It's so annoying when your stuck behind a slow one and their left turn virtue signal is stuck on blinking. You want to pass but...are they really going to turn now?
