I’m using a Schmidt and bender pm II on that one, and I have two vortex amgs I use on similar rifles. Actually two rifles are identical. I’ve had mine out to a mile now. A little bit ago I took out a trotting coyote at a little over a thousand. I love my 308s too, but I typically keep them for 500 and under now. The 6.5 is just too good.
I was looking at 300 Norma for 2500 yards etc, but I may go with hornadys new 300 PRC instead. Same bullets, but better case deisgn on hornady in my opinion.
Ahhhh, some fine European glass with the Schmidt. I’m sure that cost twice what any of my rifles did. I’m a 500 yard shooter myself (a little farther with a lot of luck on a good day and a trained shooter to spot and read off the clicks to me) and I just don’t have the expertise to handle glass like that. I’m getting a Primary Arms with a ACSS reticle to play with this summer. I’ve been hearing a lot good things about it - like how it’s perfect for a shooter like me who really doesn’t know how to work the knobs for true distance shooting. It’s got a crude range finder etched into the reticle that’s accurate enough to let you shoot man sized MOA from 500-800 yards just using holdover.
That’s all a guy really needs to be honest.
I tell the men that come to me for training the same thing. We all don’t need to shoot 4k yards. It’s very situational and not overly realistic. Most engagements are far closer, and having one or two guys with range abilities is enough for over-watch in smaller operations.
I like to maintain my skills, because like any skills, they are perishable.
Let me know how to you like that optic, I’ve heard good things about it too.
Thanks for the info. Ironically I picked up the 6.5 Creedmore over Christmas. After mounting my Leopold optics ran 9 rounds to dial in at 1500 rounds. Last 3 within an inch and a half. Liking that rifle too. .308 is what I used in military with 45 sidearm issue.
It’s a great rifle to shoot relatively affordably.
What rifle did you end up going with?
I went with a cheapo. Savage Arms Axis Creedmore 6.5
Will probably upgrade before hunting season not terribly thrilled with the stock.
If she shoots well, just put a different stock on then.
I ended up with two Begaras. For the price point they’re a great rifle. I haven’t had to change anything. At 100 yards if you do your part, you’ll put factory hornady in the same hole roughly all day.
I’ve had a buddy come with his Christensen, and it didn’t shoot as well mine. His was lighter though.
Not necessarily. You used to be able to get a top notch AR, guaranteed, by just buying "A, B, or C" (ArmaLite, Bushmaster, or Colt). But back during the last panic, Bushmaster was turning out ARs with barrel nuts torqued to less than 10 lb-ft (one of the major ammo distributors discovered it, during an endurance test using steel cased ammo). And as someone else has noted here, you can often build a quality AR on a budget, if you take your time & shop around for parts...
We are fortunate in that we have a top notch custom shop about 25 miles from us. You can have a top quality “base” model put together for around $700 or so, including a match grade trigger.
It’s where we had Mrs. L’s rig built.

I paid $668 out the door for my M&P Sport 2; could have paid less if I’dve waited but the 2016 election was looming. No regrets. I used to trash the platform but I have to admit this is a handy little piece of coolness. Very accurate. Easy to maintain and accessorize. Stoner was a sharp dude.

If you are handy enough to finish an 80% lower and add a palmetto state armory carbine upper kit you are at about $320. Add a couple magazines and a rear Magpul site and you are still under $400. You can spend more on various AR upgraded kits but this cheapie will take down a commie just fine.
I cannot comment on these particular models, but there are issues that can be a problem if you go too cheap.
The bullet ‘ramps’ are one, where the following grooves that the bullet follows as it is fed into the chamber, can not match on some models that were bargains a few years ago.
Perhaps those are fixed now and not an issue.
Also, a tight fit between the upper and lower is preferred from what I understand.
