New York Governor Andrew Cuomo announced this month that the state faces a surprise hole in its budget to the tune of $2.3 billion. The legacy Democrat failed to add that the deficit was caused by oppressive policies that have gutted the population and wealth of New York. Instead, Cuomo conveniently blamed President Trump and the Republican tax cuts for the shortfall. While the new cap on the state and local tax deduction has likely prompted some of the high earners in New York to pack up and move to low tax jurisdictions, it is not tax reform causing the bulk of the exodus. Rather, decades of poor policies at the state and local level are to blame.
New Yorkers pay an average of 12.7 percent of their income in state and local taxes and face some of the highest property taxes in the nation. New York City, where more than 40 percent of the state population lives, is the most expensive city in America, with affordable neighborhoods ridden with crime and homelessness. It is no wonder why people are fleeing in droves, with 1.2 million New Yorkers leaving since 2010. Last year, New York had the largest overall population loss in the nation. As residents continue to leave, the huge hole in the state budget will only increase.

Remember Cuomo once said, that conservatives were not welcome in New York state, or words to that effect?
Maybe some people who could, decided to leave, and say ok, go to blank Cuomo we are moving out.
Perhaps they can sell New York City to Montana to relieve some of the state of New York’s debt.
Easy fix - just raise taxes on the rich!
AOC want to tear down all the building anyway. Rebuilding all of them will bring in a lot of revenue. Course they will all be rent free.
We used to visit family in NY every year. They are all gone now and all the shops we loved are gone from the city too.

We should kick out California from the Union. Then New York City will become 50th State. Upstate will become much more conservative. They will pass laws that will help them to keep their population.

Run don’t walk! Police are handing out tickets and citations at an alarming rate attempting to keep the lights on. The boroughs and burbs are worse than Manhattan but it’s only a matter of time before they will cause an exodus. Stupid tactic because without a viable taxing populous the union pensions will be bust!
A key takeaway from this article is that only gainfully employed residents are leaving. So who does that leave?
