Natural Health

Many FReepers have knowledge to share about improving and maintaining health and would like to share it and learn from others; and others may not know much yet but want to learn. Some of us don't have much money for good insurance or doctors, some want to try other methods besides prescription meds, and some have experience in treating and solving health problems.

More and more "regular" doctors have accepted treatment methods such as the benefits of acupuncture, massage for many conditions, better diet, use of herbs and so on. There are limits, and often side effects, to some standard medical efforts.

My field is Ayurvedic herbalism and related measures, and have a lot of information I can post when I have time. I have seen herbs and sometimes dietary changes help people (including myself) with issues such as rheumatoid arthritis, high BP, gallstones, kidneystones, repeated boils, UTIs, prostate problems, insomnia, allergies, urinary incontinence, and many more. I hope to learn a lot from others with their knowledge and experience.

There are many "old fashioned" home care methods that were in common use a few generations ago that actually work and are cheap, such as castor oil packs, fomentations using alternating hot and cold water, and the like, which are easy to do. I am sure there is a lot of knowledge here on Free Republic that can be shared.

I would like this thread to stay civil without distruption, so my request is that people who think natural health methods are bunkum, make your own thread.

How do you apply the tea tree oil and olive oil? Squirt it in, dropper it in, other?

I was given this site by my dentist who uses as much natural/non-toxic stuff in his dentistry practice as possible. Last time I was in I had one side next to a new crown he put on, that was “icky” and I was afraid it meant the tooth was going bad (happened to me before with a crown). He investigated and said it was gum disease and recommended the products for gum disease on the site below.

I like the site as it is very informative besides selling good products. I strongly recommend a tongue clear and have used one for years. Stainless steel or copper is much better than plastic. Using one daily reduces bacteria in the mouth, cleans gunk off the tongue which brushing alone cannot do, and according to Ayurveda, stimulates various organs via reflex spots on the tongue. After using a tongue cleaner even once or twice, most people will never be without one.

I decided against buy their gum disease kit and instead flossed even more rigorously, rinsed very well after eating anything, swished with CS once a day. I also bought those little tiny brushy things to poke between teeth, after dipping in CS or Prunella extract (that I make, is anti-microbial).

After a few weeks, the area was much better. Now after about 2 months, it’s cured.

I did buy tooth brushes from these people, and they’re the best t. brushes I’ve ever used, and their method is the best one I’ve tried. A dentist actually taught that to me decades ago but I forgot. The story about the dentist who invented that brushing method is very interesting. Why doesn’t every dentist teach it? Less business?

Orawellness site:

Gum disease kit:

Tooth brushes, I bought two sets of five. The bristles are further apart than other brushes, supposedly this makes it so they get between the teeth better. Using this brush and the method taught below makes my teeth cleaner than any other method.

A lot of info about the tooth brushes, at link above.

I use a dropper that once contained liquid vitamins. I rub his ear after applying then clean with a Q-tip. Full strength tea tree oil can be toxic even if used externally.

I should add that my dog is 50 pounds. It would be best to dilute it more for a smaller animal. Maybe 1:5 or even 1:6.

I used tea tree oil to clean my kitty’s ears after the drops from the vet never really took care of mites (she came home with her ears infected). Never had any more problems.

Are you talking about sublingual B-12? That is all I can find. Have it at home, great energy booster.

The one I have, s.B-12 is a pill you put under your tongue until it dissolves.

I use red or green kratom. It never fails me. Of course it isn’t going to cure what is causing the pain but it works better than Norco or Percotes (sp?) that the doctors prescribe for pain. At least that is my experience and it works within 30 minutes.

I swish coconut oil for at least 10 minutes for cleaning teeth and healing gums. It even cleans my tongue. You should swish twenty minuets but I’m always rushed for time.

It’s really called oil pulling in case anyone wants to research it.

Does anyone want to start a Natural Healing For Pets thread? I think with so many people who love their animals, such a thread would be very popular. Any volunteers?

Maybe someone will like to. I was thinking we could just add animal natural healing to this thread, but then figured it might get too cluttered and hard to find posts. So I think it would be best as a separate thread. I don’t have enough knowledge to be useful on such a thread, plus there’s the time element.

I’ve done oil pulling in the past and should start again. It’s a good routine to add to oral care. I tried various oils and the only one that I could stand was sesame, refined. The unrefined has particles and tastes like a chop suey house. I could not get past the gag reflex with coconut. But there is not a hard and fast rule with oil pulling.

Actually what I did (and have some in the fridge waiting for me) was mix some drops of peppermint essential oil (may some others, can’t remember) in with a small bottle of sesame oil to quell the ick factor. Some people have a higher ick factor that others; I have a hard time with the “oil in the mouth” thing, whereas I can swallow really hellacious tasting herbs without much problem.

Glad to hear it worked for your kitty. How much did you dilute it for a cat? Initially I used a 1:1 ratio and it made him drool for 10 minutes.

The first time, when I didn’t know better, I just dipped a q-tip in the tea tree oil. Cat went crazy, it must have burned a lot. Then I mixed a drop in the olive oil, maybe 2:1. Kitty was calmer, all wrapped up in a towel. Of course after the ordeal, she received lots of love and reassurance and begging for forgiveness.

This is the stuff we put in our newly adopted dog who had an ear infection, it is supposed to clean the ears. Use once a day doc said. Says it is for cats also.

How to hold the cat down is a problem.

hen we had to put 5 drops of this in his ear 2x a day for a week, it is a RX but they do have stuff close to it online. Cleared it right up.

Check to see if it can be used on cats.

Hope this helps.

Well, here I am again with my silver biotics. . .I use it on my pets all the time including the cats’ ears. When I first started using it for my animals, I happened across a vet that told the story of how his wife is always telling him not to come home if he doesn’t have the silver biotics in hand for her dog.

I squirt the gel on their food. No urinary tract infections for my cats (indoor and outdoor) who always get a healthy report when I take them for their yearly whatever it is.

Had a beagle about 7 years ago that was almost mauled to death. I ditched the array of vet medicine I was to keep putting down all the tubes coming out of his body and in his mouth. I used liquid silver biotics instead down the tubes and smeared the gel all over his body’s injuries. Even put it in his food and gave some periodically via mouth. Absolutely no scar marks or missing hair. Everyone is amazed to look at him. His bark changed a little though. He is almost 10 years old.

I stick silver biotics gel on my two cats’ food. I squirt the gel on their food. No urinary tract infections for my cats (indoor and outdoor) who always get a healthy report when I take them for their yearly whatever it is.

I have another dog who roams the country side and is always lugging something to the house. I give him the gel and liquid too as a preventative. My relatives use the product on their pets, too.

BTW I have used the product in both the dog and cats’ ears (mine too). I was told a baby could eat an entire tube and not have ill effects.

Buyer beware. Search the internet for the best prices and watch out for the oz. Some people like to take advantage when showing the product which often looks like the larger sizes.

Is silver biotics a brand name? If not, is there a good brand?
