The founders recognized there could be no natural born citizens for 35 years after the founding, that’s why the exemption for themselves after the first comma.
No Person except a natural born Citizen, or a Citizen of the United States at the time of the Adoption of this Constitution, shall be eligible to the Office of President; neither shall any person be eligible to that Office who shall not have attained to the Age of thirty five Years, and been fourteen Years a Resident within the United States.
I was using “native-born” because that was the quality that I thought was relevant. There’s something about being born on the land, even though you couldn’t be born in the newly formed republic until the republic was founded.
But an interesting point. They thought of everything. I think they had some Help.
