In this day and age, old employers don’t give ANY info to new employers.

You're absolutely right. I worked in HR for almost 35 years and while we did verify employment, we only verified dates of employment and position held.

As a side note, we've had skilled tradesmen who were a real pain in the butt get laid off and were successful in applying for a position with the big three. There was no way we wanted to inhibit the guy's chance in getting hired with them since we knew that he wouldn't want to leave that job if we called him back to work.........LOL!

On one job they called in all the temps and told us that we were part of the "company cutbacks". I called all the agencies I was regestered with and told them I was available. That evening one called me and asked if I would be willing to go back to that job and company. They had just gotten the contract. I said yes and was there another seven months until the project was launched.

The security guard did a double take when I walked back in with my new badge the next day. :)

It was a 6 month assignment for goodness sake. My husband worked 9.5 yrs as mgmt employee. Drive 140 mi a day roundtrip to work. Let go no notice so they would not have to pay full pension. They do this all the time. And contractors are at bottom of food chain and first to be cut with budgets.

Possible reasons:
- Budget. It’s easiest to cut the contractor.
- New boss up the chain wants to bring in his people.
- The person laid off rarely knows how well they were doing or how quiet they were. Bosses rarely express expectations.

Though I’m still in a state of shock, I’ve accepted that I’m probably never going to find out why I was let go. But going forward, I need to give future interviewers a better answer than “I don’t know” when asked why I was let go from my previous job...

Just tell them end of contract.

Yep.

I have on occasion seen contractors get a different job with the same corporate client after being laid off like that. As long as they can get it set up without any break, they usually don’t have to do any of the background or drug checks either.

Definitely don’t want to burn bridges.

Yep. In general, they don’t expect anything else, and just want to see if you intentionally left, will tell on yourself for something, or if you will start badmouthing a previous employer.

My network/phone guru and a developer got it around New Year.

I’m learning somethings about phone administration. So far, maybe .5% of what I need to know.

I never burn my bridges. Blew one up but that bridge had it coming. :)

On and off I temped for 15 years. Now I work for the most demanding, unsympathetic boss imaginable, myself.

You got lots of advise that you asked for. Mainly move forward. Your contract ended. Ready for next challenge. Keep your mouth shut about in vacation and do not bad mouth the company. Ask your temp agency or eu about why no unemployment. Is this like your first job?? Sounds like it.

if they are denying unemployment doesn't that means it's for cause? seems they would have to tell you why even in an at will state

New Jersey...Pharma...Novo? Novo doesn’t really have much in the pipeline. Lots of other opportunities put there. Anyone hiring will know. Don’t worry about explaining. Not necessarily anything to do with your performance or whether or not you took a day off. Merke? J&J ?
