Shooting Down the AR Hype – According to Ted Nugent
With all the negative news about how lethal an AR is, why is it we don’t hear any bad news about shotguns?
Enter the ageless Rock n Roll icon Ted Nugent to set things straight. In a recent episode of Alex Jones’ Info Wars, the rocker Ted Nugent shared his bits about the shotgun that we use to hunt ducks with are often overlooked and how it can be more devastating than an AR-15.

Here are some of the things that Ted brought up about the shotgun:
-If the shotgun was used in these AR shootings the death rate could have doubled.
-3.5 inch 000 buck can bring down a cinder block wall, takes only two shots to tear it down.
-3.5 inch Magnum 000 buck used for backing up bears and lion hunters, each round shoots over 30 pellet. Read the rest of ar vs shotgun.

A Remington 1187 can add a mag extension to hold 7 or 8 shots. Of double ought buck that is much more lead down range than any AR with less than a 100 round mag. And those shows can be fired much more quickly with better accuracy. It is a damn killing machine (inside 30 yards).

Mental masturbation.

Each is a tool. Hammer or scalpel?

You wouldn’t do surgery with a hammer. You wouldn’t drive a nail with a scalpel.

I had a Smith & Wesson 12 gauge pump riot gun. So much fun! Ran a ton of ammo through it!

Application specific, I’d say.
Each has a different purpose.

Agree with Ted. The only problem is that the recoil from a 3 1/2” 00 buck magnum shell would probably flatten the average woman.

One advantage of many auto shotguns or pumps is their mag can be replenished from loose rounds in pockets or a bag. Shoot a couple, load a couple.

Keep doing it. There will always be enough in the mag for those times when you need to fire more than 2 or 3.

Same thing is true for many lever actions.

I guess if you need to shoot dozens of rounds before sticking a new mag in, then the ARs or AKs might be better.

Having use both professionally.

I would grab an AR over a shotgun for most serious work.

But a shotgun are very useful in some situations.

Or you can load the mag with buck and keep slugs in your pocket if you need a slug.

Coincidentally, I took my Winchester 1300, 8 shot pump out to the range the other day. I don’t practice with it near enough.

Shot 00 buck from 10, 20, 30 and 40 yards. Tore the center of the target to pieces. Should have taken a pic.

The debate about the use of an AR or shotgun is rather pointless. It all depends on the range to the expected target.

Home self-defense, I am in the 12ga. 2&3/4 inch 4-buck corner. 18&1/2 inch barrel, pump action. Bandolier strap. Shoot and feed. Learn the over the top feed as well.

I was just discussing home defense with my knowledgeable buddy and he recommended 4-buck as well. I need to buy some.

Body armor. Nuff said. Argue about head shots and I will grunt a bit and expect a demonstration on a moving Target at 10-150 yards.

https://ammo.com/bullet-type/4-buck

Standard Winchester 4-buck 2&3/4. 27 pellets .24 caliber. Penetration about 8”-10” of penetration. Typical spread is about 1” per yard. So a shot 12ft away will put 27 1/4 holes in a 4” circle to a depth of about 10”, Solid hit on the leg and they lose the leg, same with an arm. A single round in center of mass will put even the most agressive perp on their heels if not down. A second (or third) would be beyond devastating. FTR, The walls of my home are poured reinforced concrete so I am not worried about over penetration. I just want all the energy (and lead) delivered on target to stay in target for maximum knockdown power. Wife uses a side-by-side 20 gauge coach gun for the same. Bandolier sling with slugs and side stock pocket with more buck. She can work the action with right hand from the shoulder and load two at a time with her left hand in about 1 second.
