There are three tightly related Steps for the US new policy toward Irans malicious manners to stop. First: Subsequent to the US designation of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps-IRGC as a Foreign Terrorist Organization Effective on Monday, April 15, ending sanction waivers for the Mullahs Oil imports demonstrating the United States commitment to disrupting Irans terror network and changing the regimes malign behavior. U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo announced on the same day that The White House was ending exemptions from sanctions for countries that import Iranian oil. Three countries Italy, Greece, and Taiwan have already stopped buying Iranian oil. But when the waivers expire on May 2, 2019, the United States could sanction the remaining five countries China, India, Japan, South Korea, and Turkey, according to the Washington Post on May 22. The following is the White House statement: President Trump has decided not to reissue Significant Reduction Exceptions (SREs) when they expire in early May. This decision is intended to bring Irans oil exports to zero, denying the regime its principal source of revenue. The United States, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates, three of the worlds greatest energy producers, along with our friends and allies, are committed to ensuring that global oil markets remain adequately supplied. We have agreed to take timely action to assure that global demand is met as all Iranian oil is removed from the market. The Trump Administration and our allies are determined to sustain and expand the maximum economic pressure campaign against Iran to end the regimes destabilizing activity threatening the United States, our partners and allies, and security in the Middle East. The Presidents decision to eliminate all SREs follows the designation of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps as a Foreign Terrorist Organization, demonstrating the United States commitment to disrupting Irans terror network and changing the regimes malign behavior. We welcome the support of our friends and allies for this effort.
Second: The Trump administration is offering rewards of up to $10 million each for information that disrupts the finances of Lebanon's militant Hezbollah, Irans proxy organization in the Middle East.
Third: Considering the last important key as far as an internal necessary element to the desires of the Iranian Peoples wishes is concerned, the opposition to the Mullahs for a democratic change and for a better and peaceful future. Currently, Resistance Units, a network associated directly to the Iranian opposition group People's Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI/MEK), are very active to support the flooded residents in 27 Provinces. In the meantime, the Resistance Units organize the youths efforts to provide various kinds of aids in local residents everywhere in the nation.
These resistance units are especially placing the IRGC in their crosshairs. Members of a Resistance Unit cited Iranian opposition, President Maryam Rajavi saying, National solidarity is the only method of overcoming this destructive flood. Members of Resistance Units in Tehran put up a sign also citing Mrs. Rajavi, President of the Iranian opposition coalition National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI), calling for Iranians consider helping residents of flood-hit areas a national duty.
In Tehran, resistance unit members took to graffiti and wrote, Hail to Maryam Rajavi Death to Khamenei, in reference to the mullahs Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei.
In Ahvaz, the capital of the flood-hit province of Khuzestan in southwest Iran, members of resistance units took to graffiti across the city.
Destabilizing the regime is all well and good but what happens when it falls?
I’m no expert but the MEK looks like a real wild card with very little popular support with the Iranian people, probably because they supported Saddam over Iran in the Iran-Iraq war.
Is a anarchic mess in Iran really in our interest?
Ketchup Boy and Obunghole are deeply saddened.
If they’re not willing to sink the ships or bomb the trucks that carry the oil away anyway, we’ll just see DPRK be a big reseller.
“This decision is intended to bring Irans oil exports to zero”.
It’s getting serious.
Yes they will smuggle, but their volume will still drop, and they will have extra smuggling costs. Their smuggling partners will be under heightened risk.
I can’t believe that there are not additional actions prepared for when conditions are met.
Death to those corrupt oppressors!
Free Iran!
Go the route of Venezuela one would hope.
More like 1944 Japan pre use of nukes ...
Of they will load the ships as usual and turn off the tracker at some convenient point. Invisible ship.
Amazing what REAL sanctions can do.
