The draft is always a crapshoot: can’t-miss prospects who miss, guys who never reach their potential due to injury, guys who have off-the-field problems that derail them. You never know till a couple years down the road how you have done.

I watched a 30-for-30 episode earlier on this week about the 1984 draft. It focused on John Elway and Dan Marino. The Steelers could have had Marino, and her was a local Pennsylvania kid who played at Pitt to boot, but Noll wanted to go defense. Instead they chose a can’t-miss linebacker from Texas Tech. He had a good one half season then was involved in a drunk driving incident and was paralyzed. Tragic.
