I didn't want to disturb them by digging them up to check. It would probably harm them to satisfy my curiosity.
I would think that since they were just covered up with sand, they would be crushed by the wheels of a lawn mower when the grass is cut.
A local nature center had a bunch of snapping turtle eggs on display in egg cartons sunk into sand in a small fish aquarium.....I think they may have had a heating pad under the aquarium to keep them warm........
If you didn't want to go that route, get some screen and encircle the nest with it. It may keep raccoons from raiding the nest too........or not.
