Dr. Henry Cloud’s book “Boundaries” explains this perfectly.
When you have unhealthy boundaries, when you aren’t trained out of self-centered narcissism, you get someone who thinks:
* love equals total endorsement of their beliefs and actions, and if you say they’re wrong, you must hate them
* they’re so special that others’ boundaries can be violated but the rules they set others have to obey
* they can have privacy but you can’t, they can nanny others but don’t tell them what to do
* feelings equal morality, so what they want should be theirs, what they don’t like should be banned
