Please pick one that you were born with.

Yes!! I’m a monthly, also, and you are so right— just a little from everyone would make such a difference!

There is a big thunderstorm approaching Newtown, CT

I’m going outside to watch it. In my bare feet.

No. Everything on your clothes goes into your skin and bloodstream. That stuff isn’t just “starch.” It’s neurotoxic (but I forget what it is). It’s not good for you at all.

More importantly, most commercial cleaners use ironing machines. Cleaners take a damp shirt and “smash” it between two hot metal plates. The heat will cause the built up fibers to break after 6 to 10 washings.

Not to mention it also pulverizes those delicate mother-of-pearl (not plastic) buttons.

“Do I want then starched or not?”

Simple, Sam: Do you want your shirts to hang from hangers or stand straight up by themselves on the closet floor.

Yes, but take it off first.

I do not get my shirts starched unless there is a compelling reason to do so.

My BDU’s, when I was a drill instructor, were starched so stiff that I needed a broom handle to push down the sleeves to get my arms in. So, I enjoy a crisp, starched look still to this day.

I iron my own shirts; cannot afford the outrageous prices charged by dry cleaners. $7 per shirt I think is the going rate now.

No. Starch harms the fibers of the fabric in the long run, and prevents the shirt from hanging on your frame properly, IMHO.

If your shirts are all-cotton, get them starched.

If your shirts are a cotton/polyester blend, ask for light starch.

If your shirts are 100% polyester, give them to Salvation Army and buy some all-cotton shirts.

I have been dry cleaning my shirts since I was in high school (my Dad ran the cleaners) and for years I was “heavy starch” then changed to “light starch” but for the last decade I have finally decided that “NO starch” is best for me!

Starched Jeans or shirts will bead water and repel dirt. It also protects my welder husband from burns.
