If somebody wanted to kill him, they would have killed him and then taken his wallet to make it look like a robbery. The fact that they didn’t get the wallet doesn’t mean it wasn’t a robbery attempt gone wrong. When the victim resists and the robbers shoot him, it’s often enough to wake people up and start the robbers running away.

Third Possibility: Seth Rich DID steal the DNC emails on a thumbdrive, AND Seth Rich WAS murdered in a robbery gone wrong.

That no doubt happens some times. In this case, John Podesta pronounced that they “needed to make an example of someone” over the email leaks. To make an example, a hit needs to be recognizable as such, not hidden under a robbery. That observation proves nothing, but it fits the available evidence.
