Fishing Boat Startup Plans Mississippi Factory

A startup manufacturer of fishing boats on Tuesday announced plans to establish a factory operation in northeastern Mississippi.

Avid Boats expects to create 75 jobs at a facility in Amory, Mississippi — about two hours southeast of Memphis — formerly occupied by a packaging company. Avid plans to invest $1.6 million in the project, Mississippi economic development officials said in a statement.

“Although we are a startup, our team brings 100-plus years of combined marine industry experience to the table,” said Avid Boats President Phillip Faulkner. “We look forward to being a vital contributor to the continued growth of this area.”

The announcement noted that Avid executives were previously involved with two other boat manufacturers. The Amory factory will make 17-foot to 23-foot aluminum bass and center console bay boats. The company expects to build 750 boats next year and double that production by 2022.

Avid will receive infrastructure and workforce training assistance from the state and could receive a rebate from a state jobs program if it meets hiring and wage targets. City and county officials also approved tax incentives for investment and job creation.

That’s nothing.

I’m putting the finishing touches on a replica of the Titanic in my backyard.

And I built it using only old lawnmowers and washing machines :)

You should weld a bunch of ice picks to the front of it.

Have to travel to the “Burbs” to find the lawnmowers?

lol

I am not well traveled so I don’t know if Staten Island IS a suburb or not.

It’s listed as one here but half a million people on 61 square miles, would that be a suburb elsewhere or only in since a packed part of the country?

Or does suburb have nothing to do with size and density and more with way of life?

Lot of good questions - to me, a suburb is a place where it takes more than 25 minutes to mow the lawn....

ROFL!!

Then the neighborhoods with detached houses here are suburbs.

The ones with townhouse and condos and a patch of grass about 9 feet wide are semi suburbs :)

That’s how I remember it..
Actually grew up in the city of Rochester (and it seemed big to me at the time) but remember lots of lawns and fruit trees, etc.
Moved to the “burbs” in ‘62 and the lawns got a LOT bigger but it was under development so there were no established fruit trees and other goodies one could find in the city.
I guess even us original city kids picture NYC as 5th and Madison and Times Square - and forget that it ain’t just skyscrapers.
