Hey I’m a to each their own kinda guy. But my philosophy is if you need a pistol get a pistol. Don’t try to turn a rifle into one.
To me it’s like firing a .357 magnum cartridge through a 1-1/2 long barrel. All you’re going to get is a horrendous muzzle flash while achieving the muzzle velocity of a +P .38 Spl. Maybe.
Need a pistol? Buy one. Learn how to use it effectively.
Need a rifle? Buy one. Learn how to use it effectively.
Need a shotgun? Buy one. Learn how to use it effectively.
Put all the rest of the cash into ammunition, Range time, and professional training. Everything else is just silly.
One man’s opinion and it’s worth exactly what you paid for it.

Pistol caliber AR variants are basically a way for guys to walk around with their dick in their hand.
Better to have a Glock 17 and keep it in your pants.

The 556/223 pistol certainly is not as effective as a carbine or rifle, but like it’s longer siblings, it still can defeat 3a+ armor, whereas any standard pistol caliber , in handgun or carbine platforms will not....
Just depends on the perceived threat environment.
That said, I don’t carry an AR pistol, but am concerned about armored threats. So I assume I likely will have a failure to stop, and train accordingly.

You recently had some comments about the PSA AR-9, didn’t you? This one looks like its fancy cousin.
There are some pistol caliber carbines where that is a concern - CMMG has a 10mm version, IIRC. However, most of these 9mm ARs have barrels at least as long as would ordinarily be found on a Glock, so I don't see where wasted gunpowder would be an issue.
People generally shoulder these things PDW-style, and since it's legally a pistol, no worries about having an unregistered SBR.
Bingo. An AR pistol, chambered for a pistol cartridge, can actually improve ballistic performance, if the barrel is an appropriate length (8"-12"). Other cartridges, like the .300 Blackout, may also function efficiently in barrels less than 16" long. A lot of folks apparently picture .223/5.56 when they hear "AR pistol", and there's no doubt that the performance of that cartridge suffers, even in ~14" M4 barrels.
The 9mm gains from the longer barrel. The 5.56 suffers from the shorter one. If I have to carry a pistol and a carbine, magazine interchangeability isn’t a big concern, though.

38/.357 in a lever action rifle makes for a good partner to a .357 wheel gun and nice muzzle velocity.

Exactly the combo I have. The idea of using the same ammo in handgun and rifle has been around like forever.
Recycling a three-year-old article might be the closest they could get to a "Beto Special"...
