Trump Talks Gun ‘BuyBack’ with New Zealand Prime Minister

President Trump talked gun buybacks in a closed-door meeting with New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern this week, CBS News reports.

Ardern told “CBS This Morning” co-host Gayle King that during the conversation, Trump was “interested” in how the country responded to the Christchurch tragedy in March with a sweeping ban on most semiautomatic firearms, all modern sporting rifles, and magazines with a capacity greater than 10 rounds.

“We had a policy discussion. He was interested in how it all worked, how it had been received,” explained Ardern.

However, she couldn’t tell whether Trump was actually considering doing something similar here in America.

“I got the impression he was interested,” she said. “I would be second guessing anything beyond that.”

Per the ban, known as the Arms (Prohibited Firearms, Magazines and Parts) Amendment Regulations 2019, owners of newly prohibited firearms and accessories have until December 20, 2019 to sell them “back” to the government. Failure to do so may result in jail time and/or fines.

President Trump is a good listener.

He is also a very good strategist and someone who investigates and makes up his own mind.

Listening like this disarms the Left and buys time for the emotional storm to die down.

Every day without further erosion of our rights is a victory.

NZ spent about $1830 per weapon and only got about 10% compliance.

In the U.S. you'd have to include the cost of CWII.

To the NZ Premier:

I considered selling my guns back to the government but after a background check and thorough investigation into the buyer, I determined the buyer has a history of violence and is mentally unstable. Big risk to everyone around it.

“Because about ten minutes after libs sign it into law, it will become MANDATORY”

I’m assuming that won’t happen.

Seems like a good way to get rid of guns you don’t want if they offer a good price.

Downside is that unless the buyback is anonymous big brother will know that you owned a gun.

“Why should my tax dollars be used to buy someone’s gun they don’t want?”

That’s a good point. Hadn’t thought of that.

The entire "buy back" concept is predicated upon a lie. One cannot "buy back" what one has never owned.

As to. "What could be wrong with a voluntary gun buy back?" What could be right about it?

Well, not really. First, the government should not be in the business of buying operable firearms and then destroying them (waste of money), and secondly, this is merely one piece of the anti-gun puzzle.

When the Government Agents come to take your guns they won’t care that you lost your guns in a boating accident. When they leave they will take you or your guns and maybe you and your guns with them when they leave.

President Trump needs to leave the guns alone. He has enough troubles now , without adding to them.

my guess is this is ginned up by the Dems to piss off Trump’s base, if no, he’s a one termer.

Trump has amazing intestinal fortitude to keep putting up with all this bull$hit and run again. He's been attacked from day one and the intensity has only risen.

One item that no one seems to be discussing is the fallout around how Trump has been treated, as also evidenced by the Kavanaugh hearing. Will any Republican, and God forbid, a conservative run for higher offer, be totally savaged along with their family? If so, then the Republic is dire straits.

I’d read accounts of people selling the .gov junk eastern bloc surplus rifles for big profits.

Remember when you could pick up a cosmoline-coated SKS for under $100? I remember seeing them sold from stacks of crates at the Erie gun show in the early 80s.

You can make book on that if it happens, it will be structured to the Government’s advantage. Plus there will be a hook in there somewhere.

“...I’m assuming that won’t happen...”

Remember who we’re dealing with here. The people that want us disarmed do not have good intentions.

“... unless the buyback is anonymous ...”
It won’t be.

And besides - they can’t “buy back” what was never theirs to begin with.

They want you to be a Good Little Serf and voluntarily present yourself to the cattle car on your own.

I don’t mind him finding out what they do. But keep it at that. In fact, knowledge is power. He’ll be able to give reasons to say no even more then the second amendment.

Not trying to disagree with your intent, but I think that argument is semantics and detracts from the more important points.

1) We have a right to defend ourselves from tyrannical govt and that right comes from The Father and is ensconced in our constitution. Outside of our military (which is restricted in domestic application), we should have the right to arm ourselves for self defense to at least the same degree as our domestic govt agencies in order to secure that right.

2) The buy back is a step towards confiscation, same as a registry. It threatens the right described in (1)
