Attacking Trump in contemptuous fashion is not speaking truth to power but a confirmation of the existing status quo of the media, progressive orthodoxy, and the general Washington bipartisan bureaucracy.
The result is that many retired high-ranking officers have made the necessary adjustments. Many have gone well beyond legitimately articulating why Trump may be wrong on foreign policy, and now feel free to malign, insult, and even dream of removing their commander-in-chief, on the grounds that Trump is sui generis, that the media will applaud their efforts, and that the bipartisan foreign-policy establishment will canonize their deep-state bravery.
Perhaps.
But the danger is that half the country will conclude that too many retired generals and admirals are going the way of past CIA and FBI directorsno longer just esteemed professionals, op-ed writers, and astute analysts, but political activists who feel entitled to challenge the very legitimacy of an elected presidenta development that is ruinous both for the reputation of a hallowed military and of the country in general.
So it is now the decision of many ex-intelligence heads and flag officers, as retirees, analysts, and businesspeople, to change the rules of the game. Again fine. But they will live to rue the ensuing harm to the reputations both of the intelligence services and the military at large.

I've only excerpt the meaty part about the consequences of these Military-Intelligence(-Media) complex doing harm to the Republic.
As VDH said, "Indeed, the damage is well underway."
“many retired high-ranking officers”
You mean the ones that won our wars, with little cost in blood and treasure over these past 75 years?
That group?
Oh boy, lets learn about the way to win from this band of brothers.
/s
VDH at his best.
He exposes the Deep State Mentality of so many of our former and high ranking intel A$$holes, both military and so called civil servants against our president.
How much money and other undisclosed benefits are these coup leaders pocketing for their 24/7 anti President Trump remarks.
When our best and brightest former generals and admirals
Oh, Victor.....
I wonder how fast Einstein could run two miles?
Thank you for the list of names. It good to know the enemy!
VDH fails to mention James Mattis in his pantheon of retired officers. Mattis's "bone spurs" comments, from the top military guy, just gives other officers the go ahead to trash our President. The Monk is not.
Loaded with traitors who have fallen in with the socialist democRATS and their supporting propaganda arm, the MSM. Bosom buddies.
And Obama weaponized the intelligence agencies by top-loading them with anti-American and now, anti-Trump, traitors. The lower-echelon players either fall in line or are gotten rid of or transferred to do-nothing jobs with no influence or power.
He also cleaned house in the military by getting rid of any colonels and generals who didn't agree with his globalist, LGBT, progressive agendas. That left his patsies in place to do his bidding.
The "resistance" Left is way ahead of any conservative effort to clean house in these bureaucracies. They are embedded so deep that it will take more than two Trump administrations to root them out and replace them with patriots again.
You forgot to mention Bush alongside Obama.
Obama wasn’t the first. Bill Clinton also hated pro American Intel guys. Remember that he was the one that gave Intel officer names to foreign nations.
My bad.
Clinton was better known for his crooked pecker and all of the women he had affairs with and raped. And for single-handedly creating a new word in the American pop culture lexicon for a BJ, a Lewinsky.
But I must admit, I do not remember Clinton giving intelligence officer names to foreign nations. I wasn't paying as close attention to national politics and Deep State shenanigans back then.
Thanks for the heads up.
I recommend sharing this article, “The Military-Intelligence Complex,” with your intel ping list.
I will state that I don’t care for him considering Comey, Clapper and Brennan as being “military intelligence” or connecting politicized generals such as McCaffery and others with the intel field. They misused it rather than were part of it.
It just hit me that I ignored the hyphen that VHJD used in his title “The Military-Intelligence Complex.” I now realize that I mistook him to be talking about “military intelligence” that both of us were served with, instead of a merging of politicized military flag officers and the civilian heads of the FBI, CIA, and the Director of National Intelligence: Comey, Brennan, and Clapper.
LTG Flynn remains one of the good guys who was made a fall guy because the Obama-ites wanted to further punish him for wanting to reform and re-organize the intel community.

The Under Secretary for Defense for Intelligence screwed this up and it needs to be corrected so that the Chairman is served by members coming from all branches, but are legitimate Joint Staff employees that don't have to worry about going back to DIA and paying for the sins of being impartial.
This breeds a military intelligence complex of group-think and corrupt Clapperism.
” - - - reform and re-organize the intel community.”
This is badly needed today.
If you recall there was a reorganization done in 1977. Congress was made aware of and investigated all sorts of shenanigans.
One such reorganization was making all Army intel activities operationally subordinate to the Army with the creation of INSCOM. I know of one agency prior to that date where the folks in it prided themselves as not being DA soldiers, and the most dreaded thought was being “sent DA”, especially in Vietnam.
Yes, we did, and those of still alive know how badly DA screwed up by polluting our agency.
I wasn’t around for the change over. But I recall having a special heritage and a very unique standing. Also one of our units, the 313th, in some circles is considered the most decorated battalion of all MI units. Most of the citations were when I was with them in Vietnam.
And the 509th was the only non-combat unit awarded the Vietnamese Cross Of Gallantry, which was a big deal until the South Vietnamese government awarded it to everyone, which then made it an attendance award just as worthless as the National Defense Service Ribbon.
So I can see once ASA got blended together with the herd much pride was lost. Bet there was much infighting at AHS at the start.
Personally I went IRR and hung that up the day Slick Willy was sworn in.
1965 to 1993 is still a long tour.
Leftists everywhere fear the intelligence organs until they are fully in control of them and fear the military permanently. That is why democrats from Truman on have purged the officer corps and diminished the military. Republicans once back in office must build the military back up. It is an expensive procedure. Leftists fear the military because it is capable of action against the rulers, rulers who would use militaries against a government to get themselves into power. They know how they would use it and fear that it might not be under their control.
