Those federal bureaucrats then recommend policies that suit their politics - ie the agenda of the Democrat Party. Then Democrats claim the recommendations of the bureaucrats are not political and our elected leaders overruling them is done solely for political reasons. Laughable BS.

18 years ago, I scored in the top 1% in the State Department entrance test and was invited to DC for an interview, mostly with small groups. I came away convinced that they were a little elitist club interested only in outward diversity and absolutely committed to internal conformity that their club knew best. Everyone on the interview team came from a handful of select colleges and got their other foreign policy credentials either with the Peace Corps or media (sometimes both).

Other people I've known who have spent much of their career in DC have told me that while Foggy Bottom may be the most elitist of the bureaucratic clubs, they are not the only one. In fact, it is the rule, not the exception.
