Related but not as serious - have been concerned about my next car being loaded down with so much "help" that I won't be able to focus on driving for the excess of warnings, notifications etc. coming at me from inside my vehicle.

I know what you mean...

When I bought my first new car, it was a 1990 Toyota Carolla. I ordered it with hand-crank windows (they were still available back then,) cloth seats, no radio, cruise control (had to be added by the dealer,) and wiper delay.

I wanted the minimum electronic devices that could fail (I added my own stereo.)

I will admit, they’ve gotten much more reliable over the years. But still, I sort of miss the days when I could do my own tune ups, with nothing more complicated that a few hand tools, feeler gauges, a timing light and a tach and dwell meter. Not that I have the time to do my own tune-ups anymore.

Mark
