I would like to think so, but they have been around since the Constitition was ratified.

They were always justified for special circumstances.

They have become common with the "war on drugs".

You can thank the War on Drugs for no knock raids, prior to that they were rarely used.

Yeah, the "war on drugs" has been about as successful as the war in Afghanistan.
