Because they are backing the candidates with the best chance of winning, to the extent they are even paying attention yet. Their minority base doesn’t really turn up for primaries. What do you think is coming once Biden, Sanders, Pelosi, Hoyer etc ... are gone in a very few years? The Squad.
I think the Dems are purposing throwing this election, I believe they have problems, a squad problem, a millennial problem, old guard problem and of course TDS
I think they are going with impeachment to appease the millennial/squad members, they need that vote in the future and need to prove to them that they will impeach the president. They know this will knock them out in 2020, but 2020 is impossible anyways when you have flame thrower like Trump running, with a good economy and a foreign policy that most Americans, even peace nick liberals, you know those hippy types they forgot about, like. Trump is extremely strong going into 2020, in better shape then Obama or Bush (and some would say even Reagan)
So why run a candidate in 2020 that would do better in 2024? That is where Warren, Bernie, Biden, whomever is the sacrificial lamb comes into play. They will be the designated loser, like Mondale or Kerry or Romney, they will run the normal boring campaign while Trump is laps around them and making fun of them. It leaves their potential 2024 candidate unscathed and not under the Trump microscope and ridicule.
Impeaching Trump is about appeasing the Millennials, they are not a big factor now, but in 4 years the older ones will be in their 40’s and the most of them will be in there 30’s ripe voting age. And impeaching the guy they don’t like, will give the ‘Rats the street cred that they need going forward with this group.
The dems are playing the long game here
