They say the first step is admitting you have a problem. I think many readers of this article will respond with outrage, and many will see it says things they already knew to be trueand I think these two groups will largely overlap. The most powerful obstacle to confronting a destructive addiction is denial, and collectively we are in denial about pornography.
Since it seems somehow relevant, let me state at the outset that I am French. Every fiber of my Latin, Catholic body recoils at puritanism of any sort, especially the bizarre, Anglo-Puritan kind so prevalent in America. I believe eroticism is one of Gods greatest gifts to humankind, prudishness a bizarre aberration, and not so long ago, hyperbolic warnings about the perils of pornography, whether from my Evangelical Christian or progressive feminist friends, had me rolling my eyes.
Not anymore. I have become deadly serious. A few years ago, a friendunsurprisingly, a female friendmentioned that there was strong medical evidence for the proposition that online pornography is a lot more dangerous than most people suspect. Since I was skeptical, I looked into it. I became intrigued and kept following the evolving science, as well as online testimonies, off and on. It didnt take me long to understand that my friend is right. In fact, the more I delved into the subject, the more alarmed I became.
The central contention of this article is that, however we might feel morally about pornography in general, a number of features about pornography as it has actually existed for the past decade or so, with the emergence of Tube sites that provide endless, instant, high-definition video in 2006, and the proliferation of smartphones and tablets since 2007, is fundamentally different from anything weve previously experienced.
If women are practicing promiscuity, wouldn’t that reduce the demand for porn? I mean, why watch a screen if you can be rolling in your sweet baby’s arms?
No, because it’s hypergamous. They’re all going for the same very narrow set (5-10%) of men. Overwhelming majority of men see it going on around them but have no access and aren’t enjoying its “benefits”. Porn gives them a share if only by proxy.
Which is why they never should have been given the franchise. All things go in cycles. At some point in the near/far future, after the next domestic conflict, the victors will have to eliminate certain groups from public participation.
“No, because its hypergamous. Theyre all going for the same very narrow set (5-10%) of men.”
So, women are holding out for men they can’t realistically expect to get, leaving the men they could actually get to MGTOW?
Agreed! Good observations and evaluation on your part. Food for thought. Thanks!
What can we do about it? Increase support for political action, even for those of us who can only give a little.
Increase personal security with physical fitness (exercise), study, plans, insurance (legal defense services like the USCCA) practice, cameras and other self-defense items. And practice, practice,...
pretty good summary there yes
“pretty good summary there yes”
Just one more unit of proof that equal employment for women was one of the stupider mistakes America ever made.
Do away with online porn?
How dare you!
It was a horrible mistake. No woman will ever be happier in the long run having spent her fertile years giving birth to Powerpoint presentations.
The trouble with porn is that it makes it too easy to satisfy a man’s need. Getting a women to agree means the man will be there to raise the children. Taking the easy way means no children to take care of you when you get old and weak. Socialist Insecurity has thrown a wrench into this natural order. People look towards the state for retirement rather than the family they have built.
That’s funny, right there.
Lol. It can only stay for a period of time. Then its over.
He might say well say "I am a college indoctrinated liberal who avidly reads Newsweek, by which I understand history."
You could end the pr0n epidemic, by destroying feminism, so women stayed virgins till marriage, got married young, and married men at their own level rather than riding the carousel until 35.
I never had sex with anyone except my now-husband and let me tell you most men run a mile if you tell them you're saving it for marriage. Actions speak louder than words, and the actions of the majority of American men show that they do not, as a group, actually want traditional women. Oddly enough many of the same men who turned me down for not giving them premarital sex are now whining "Why are all the women I know such sluts?". A bit unclear on the action-consequences link.
Arghhhhh!
STOP THAT!!!!
Just stumbled on to this piece (via Rod Dreher) and searched for it here. I’ve read some of the comments and I must say I’m sorry the folks on this thread didn’t seem to take it seriously.
It’s hard for me to really understand what a problem this is. This has never been an issue in my life. Sure, I’ve seen some porn, nothing hardcore. It always just seemed kind of stupid to me. After the internet came around I took a look and was a bit shocked at the stuff I saw. Yeah, this ain’t no Playboy Magazine. I warned my kid to stay away from it. But she’s a girl so I suppose she mostly would and did stay away. Had she been a boy I would have watched much more closely.
But lately I’ve run across some pieces that treated it from a Christian perspective and I started to realize it was a bigger problem that I realized.
And this piece is from December, 2019, so, like everything freaking else, this porn situation is probably 1000 times worse by now.
Thanks for posting this important article.
“...why watch a screen if you can be rolling in your sweet baby’s arms?”
I’m posting on this old thread, but you need to read this article. It will answer your question.
I just read this article so am posting on this old thread. Sure, we all know everybody f*cked back in the day. As the fellow said on the TV show “Entourage”: Otherwise, how did we all get here?
But that was real life, and throughout that time, as you well know, Society discouraged random sexual liasons. And how could they have done otherwise, because you know, you get children with that sort of carrying on. (The Birth Control pill is really at the heart of all the sexual revolution.)
So no, online porn is NOT the same as getting randy with the milkmaid, or boffing the milkman.
That's precisely why porn has exploded. Wives trying to be down with feminist movements, trying to compete with their husbands, etc. Who in the heck would want to get married now only to see half of their assets taken away by the state.
Porn has exploded because it takes zero effort and costs zero money to view it privately.
In the old days of magazines and VHS rentals, you had to seek it out. Go to a gas station or adult bookstore and buy a magazine, or the cordoned-off backroom of the family video-rental store --and they weren't cheap. And you took the risk of running in to someone you knew. Imagine the gossip if the neighbor saw your car in the parking lot of the adult bookstore or your wife's best friend saw you sneaking out of the XXX section of the video rental place?
There are no such risks today. Porn sites are some of the most popular sites on the internet. "Private" browsing is available on every browser. It is free and seemingly endless.
