What do you think of this message. A woman told me this today as I was at the car wash. She says America doesn't want more prisons, immigration enforcement, military and police. She wants most of the budget on government run jobs and schools.

Repeal the 19th. Problem solved.

It's wasn't FDR's "New Deal" and all his pilfering from the federal coffer (WPA, Social Security, etc) that finally ended the depression. In fact his policies probably prolonged it.

What ended the depression was the rise of Hitler and the looming threat of war on the European continent. Those wise enough to see what Hitler was up to started plussing up their stockpiles of war materiel, and who else were they going to buy from in such quantities? Nobody but the USA.

US industrial production turned upwards in May of 1938 and didn't taper off until August of 1944, by which time it had near as makes no difference quadrupled.

Nothing FDR was doing was ever going to end The Great Depression because his economic policy (like Socialism in general) amounted to little more than scooping water from the deep end of the pool and pouring it into the shallow end and expecting the water level to rise. What ended the Depression was hard specie crossing the Atlantic to pay for the guns, bullets and food America sold the Europeans in preparation for their war of resistance against Nazi Socialism.
