I had asthma for years, decades even. It was bad enough at times that I made trips to the emergency room. I struggled through high school before learning about the Medihaler Iso from 3M. Made life livable. After the prescription ran out, it was Medihaler Epi which was epinephrine instead of Isuprel. After a while I used Primatene and Bronchaid. After I got health insurance, I started using Albuterol.

Then I took up day hiking in the Sierras. After a year or two, I was out on the trail without an inhaler. The nearest one was 40 miles away by driving after 4 miles hiking back to the car. I had no choice but to go without. An hour after I discovered that I didn’t have an inhaler, I found out that I could survive without one. Ten years later, I still don’t use them.

Same here, 10 years ago my hoarded Primatene Mist ran out. I knew I could live without it, I had experiences where it would suddenly stop. It was never life threatening. Finally, figured out I was slowly sucking air into my stomach, and that pushed on my diaphragm, causing attacks. Ibuprofen helped, so, now I don’t experience attacks anymore.

I was on Primatene for 33 years.
