Regardless of the source it appears to be highly contagious with an easy human to human vector. But it doesn’t appear to be as deadly as the prior SARS outbreak.
Doubtful it’s a military variant, unless they were just testing a contagion.
Most likely just nature doing its thing.

It could honestly be either way.
The Party has a history of playing fast and loose with rules and standards up to the point there is an unmistakable and undeniable disaster.
Then they crack down with a vengeance because the Party was embarrassed.
So, they could be reacting hard because they do not want another SARS 2003 or they could be reacting because the fecal matter hit the rotary oscillator in a bio lab and they are desperately trying to contain the damage.

I bought it on Amazon Prime. Don’t regret it, as I’ve watched it now several times, and 3 times straight thru.
If you grew up in the 60s you will really relish it.
Until I read this article, I assumed the virus spread through bat bites, or scratches, or something. I had no idea they are EATING BATS. And snakes and dogs. Nothing must be safe over there.
Based on the current level of panic from the CCP, it would appear this is at least a level 3 pathogen, possibly level 4.
I can’t imagine you’d quarantine nearly 30M people for a level 2.
