"The common cold is a coronavirus."

Some members of the coronavirus family are 'cold' viruses, but these only constitute ~10-15% of all colds. The majority of colds are caused by rhinoviruses (although a few other viruses can also cause colds). Coronavirus family members also cause SARS and MERS, which can be deadly. That said, you are right that there are going to be lots of people trying to make vaccines, so that is the most likely reason to make a live but attenuated strain.

Looks like there are going to be a lot Chinese subjects to try to get a vaccine from.
