During World War Two, Douglas MacArthur built his young wife a bathroom at Air Kaca in Morotai.
The local land owner bestowed a huge honour on me when he asked me to create a memorial there.
In response we put up an art display there and planted memorial trees over five years.
When I tried to share these efforts and seek replication at important military heritage land in my own neighbourhood of Maribyrnong in Australia, I was accused of harassment, arrested by the police and dragged through psychological hell in a family violence court.
When will the madness of modern feminist misandry stop attacking decent men and ruining their lives?
Could you be a bit more vague?
It’s Old Timers kicking in.
Help me, I’m seeing the words, but they’re not connecting with the brain. I fear I’m losing my mind...
The facilities at Air Kaca may not be number 1, but they are number 2.
Give him a break.
Hes translating from Australian.
Move to New Jersey...
Otherwise he is planting trees in a bathroom. And if was a WWII ladies room built for the General's wife then they would have to be very small trees.
Bonsai maybe?
The BS is deep with this one, Kemo Sabe.
She was born in 1898, so she would have been 44-47 during World War II. Back then, that was middle age, not young.
Meanwhile, Dugout Doug was busy with the Philippines October 1944 - August 1945 (Manila cleared by March, 1945).
He was born in 1880 so was 18 years her senior. Compared to him she was young.
test test... am I having a stroke?
Here is the art display on the island of Morotai in Indonesia. Do the Australians now have an issue with MacArthur?
There are people in both Australia and America who have a lot less respect for MacArthur than I do. To me he is one of the truly great wordsmiths of his or any era. This is not intended to disrespect his primary achievements as a military and national leader, but my field of expertise is literature and my judgement is that very few thinkers in history have been as good at expressing universal truths in universal ways as Douglas MacArthur was.
I dont know .........
As I understand it, the Allies, primarily Americans, quickly gained control of the coast, main towns in september 1944 but many Japanese personnel held out in the interior for a long time. One of them, Nakamura, a Korean mercenary, surrendered in 1974. The formal Japanese surrender was on September 9 1945. I doubt if they fought it out till sept 8 then but do not know for certain.
Agreed. But since MacArthur was 64-65 in the Morotai years, she was young compared to him.
Why? Copland is one of my alltime favourite movies so i do like the suggestion.
“Dugout Doug” was how my father, a Korean war vet, also referred to MacArthur.
The Japanese launched occasional harassment attacks and raids but were not a significant danger to the US personnel. Attacks from Japanese aircraft were more of a concern, and for the Japanese the US bomber crews used any evidence of their presence as an excuse to test their guns and drop excess munitions.
