I had no awareness of the book. The Wikipedia reference did it justice.
Nevertheless, things are looking bright for them. They used to get their ass beat in presidential elections (McGovern, Mondale). Now they win (Odungo) or lose by razor-thin margins.
Democrats are socialists, tgere’s no reason why they’d freak out about a system they love whether they consciously realize it or not. All their ‘solutions’ and ‘plans’ are socialist in nature.
My son has several (former) friends who were big Bernie supporters in 2016. I asked him what the appeal was- why did they support this old white guy?
His answer was, basically, the “gimmees.” He said that a lot of the ones he knows “don’t have much” and are apparently not too interested in improving their lives on their own. I think that they believe that they should have the same standard of living and the same “stuff” as someone who has spent years working to get what they have.
They have no clue about what socialism actually IS. People in his age group and younger don’t remember the USSR or the Cold War. Even if they did, they don’t think that THEY would be the ones sent to the Gulag.

Democrats don’t feel an aversion to socialism. So perhaps they don’t see the extent of the political danger.

Most of them, like the poorly educated, history-wise, millennials see socialism as a shorthand for social programs, not state control of individuals. Adding ‘free’ to the propaganda is the bait and the enticement which, once the socialist takeover happens, will never see fruition.
Convincing these people of the reality of socialism (the goal of socialism is communism - VI Lenin) will be difficult to impossible. they cannot envision that both Cuba and Venezuela were once prosperous nations or understand how Che and Chavez murdered many of their citizens. Understanding the true dept of the mass murder needed to keep order like Stalin and Mao resorted to, is simply beyond their cognition and belongs in another universe.
Someone says “socialism”
We hear “socialism.
Democrats hear “free shit”
