I remember that when I was in China. The resulting filth on trains and planes was incredible.
After reading what this guy described about his experiences in China, I’m wondering why he made a point of claiming that the Chinese are not culturally backward or genetically inferior. Maybe it’s true that medical care is dramatically different in a fully socialist system than it is in the U.S., but socialism doesn’t explain repulsive public behavior like crapping on the street or hocking wads of phlegm on the floor of a restaurant.

I would say the dictatorship is communist in the sense they use it to main power, with that power they run a capital-driven economy to strengthen the aforementioned communist grip - so round & round it goes.
The former Soviet Union would be closer “purely communist” than China in it’s functioning.
